From Playboy subscriptions to shopping, Mayor directs employee and gets fined
By | Friday, August 7th, 2009 | Policy

She handled his Playboy subscription. She shopped for him looking for everything from hair paste to leather to exercise videos. And she didn’t take it any longer.

Portsmouth Mayor James Holley, who endorsed Brian Moran earlier this year, was fined by City Council for his actions based on the complaint of assistant Lorraine A. Stokes, according to the Virginian-Pilot.

“The reason it continued is because I would rather make him happy by accommodating his personal requests than to face the abuse he was handing out.” Ms. Stokes

This is the same guy who complained that the only hotel in Portsmouth was “a white hotel” and had his city car privileges revoked because of his repeated accidents.

When does this end?

About the author

Brian Kirwin

The right wants to jeer him. The left wants to censor him. Moderates usually want both. Brian Kirwin is a political consultant and public relations strategist in Virginia Beach with a lightning-rod flair. Brian also serves on the VB Arts & Humanities Commission and frequently appears on Hampton Roads theatrical stages, if only to prove that all actors aren’t liberals. Kirwin’s columns stir up debate and hit the political scene with no punches pulled.

When a majority of residents of Portsmouth take pride in themselves and their city and stop viewing things through the prism of race.

I read this article about Portsmouth, the day after reading one about people complaining about prayer at Chesapeake City Council Meetings. What a huge difference in these two cities! Reminds me of how lucky I am to live in Chesapeake with the leaders we have.

For a short time only, buy the Marion Barry guide to being an effective mayor. Endorsed by James Holley.
