Ken Cuccinelli “I’m in the Courts Committee working on addressing the Melendez problem, and I’m wondering… where is Senator Creigh Deeds? Isn’t this important enough to step off the campaign trail for part of a day?”

  1. JR Hoeft says:

I guess doing his job for the people of Virginia and his district is just not that important to Sen. Deeds.

Of course, he’s learned this trait from the current governor, so we shouldn’t be all that surprised.

  2. Brian (not that one) says:

Addressing Melendez might even be important enough to work on it rather than post on Facebook.

  3. JR Hoeft says:

Wow…now that’s rich, Brian. A twenty-second update on FB that he likely did during a break vice not showing up to participate in debate, hear testimony, come up with compromises, etc. Oh, yes, highly comparable.

Not to mention Cooch was the first to call for this session while his opponent called it a “stunt” and was the first to turn in legislation.

    You make no sense.

  4. [...] Last I checked, Creigh Deeds – the Democrat candidate for Governor of Virginia – hasn’t resigned his Senate seat. So I’m finding this comment by Ken Cuccinelli – Republican candidate for Virginia’s Attorney General and sitting Senator in the General Assembly – as fascinating as Bearing Drift’s Brian Kirwin did. [...]

  5. Britt Howard says:

Holy crap Brian! (not that one)

Ya know………….if Cuccinelli gave you a sack of gold coins, you’d call him cheap for not giving you platinum!

You’re right, it is important! Cuccinelli ACTUALLY goes to the courts committee to do something about it! Unlike some people. Unlike other people, Cuccinelli jumped on this glaring, gaping hole in our system created by what was probably a good, although inconvenient court ruling. Simply because it came out of a Republican’s mouth, Shannon called it a stunt rather than agreeing with obvious common sense? Even Kaine……..finally had to accept the truth and agree with Cuccinelli.

Really………….by acting like pissy little children bitchin’ about who said what first and crying about it scoring points for the opposition if they agree, it would serve the Democrats FAR better to say something like:

“Conveniently for him, my opponent said it first. Let me just say, that I won’t part with a needed course of action due to his beating me to the punch. I whole heartily agree with my colleague that something must be done swiftly before the lives of Virginians are put in unnecessary jeopardy when criminals skate on technicalities caused by poor preparation on the state level. If that takes a special session, I’m for it.”

Why couldn’t something like that be said? Why can’t we have adults minding the store? I thought Deeds had a good chance, now I’m wondering about that. Shannon……..I’m not as surprised, he’s just not on the same level as Cuccinelli.

Deeds looked like the adult at that Democrat tantrum fest called a primary. Now he looks like a “Me too” Mark Warner brown noser. What the hell happened? I am so dying for any excuse to vote against “One gun a month” HRTA lovin’, “no kissin’ below the belt” McDonnell. The pathetic thing is, the Democrats won’t give me one!!!!!

The brilliant democrat strategists just give continual life to a Cuccinelli bragging right by endlessly ignoring common sense. Really, they’re slitting their own throats. Its bad for Virginians and it makes the Democrats just look pitiful.

  6. Brian (not that one) says:

You guys need to lighten up. I’d no idea how badly your boxers would wad up over a poke at your boy.

  7. Britt Howard says:

Oh, ok. If it was just a “poke” then my frustration was for nothing. Not all people that are against Cuccinelli are idiots.

The problem is, that some actually believe the tripe that they’re fed. If you’re only pretending to drink the kool-aid while just being partisan, then that’s a relief. Short sighted in view of what’s best for Virginia, but at least there’s some individual decision making going on.

  8. Brian (not that one) says:

    Britt,

I think that I owe you an explanation as to my hopes for November. The outcome that I would most like to see from the statewide races is a winning slate of McDonnell/Bolling/Shannon. As of right now (I stress – right now), it looks like a McDonnell victory could be decisive enough to pick up several seats in the HoD for the Repubs. Cuccinelli’s loss would leave the Senate tally where it is now. I’m assuming that a Dem would take the seat if he wins the AG race. I have some hope that he might win reelection in 2011 and maybe the Repubs could regain the 1st district seat. I know that I’m hoping for more than I’ll likely get, but the next two GA sessions and redistricting will be better if it happens.

  9. Britt Howard says:

I get that logic. I even understand not wanting to lose Cuccinelli in that district. How many guys are good enough to pull a RPV victory in that place? Senate numbers might hinge on one vote. I get it.

Still, it would cheat Virginia as a whole of Cuccinelli’s leadership as AG. His actions centering around the Melendez decision is just proof of how much he stays on top of things.

And let’s face it. Some of the fault that the RPV doesn’t hold more seats lies with the RPV. If one was to get that hung up on a single victory in a tough district to hold things, does the party really DESERVE to win? I’m not so sure. Something broken should be fixed. That will alleviate the symptoms.

What if that margin would be two seats and Cuccinelli’s loss wouldn’t have helped anyway, leaving us with a seond rate like Shannon as Virginia’s Attorney General? Also cheating Virginia of an outstanding Cuccinelli AG that premptively looks for problems like the Melendez court decision?

Much of Cuccinelli’s legislative efforts focused on protecting our individual rights, ………..property rights(eminent domain reform), 2nd amendment protections, and recently protecting Virginians from violent criminals that would escape justice because they were unable to confront the person conducting the DNA or drug analysis. I say we need that kind of AG here in Virginia. We should reward his past efforts and his current ability to step up to the next level. Talent at Cuccinelli’s level doesn’t come around every day. I say we reward that and let an outstanding Virginian take all of us to that next level.

  10. Brian (not that one) says:

Fair points all. I certainly agree that all else aside, Cuccinelli would be a far superior AG than Shannon. I don’t like the idea of having an AG who (when in the legislature) tried to bully radio stations into dropping Neal Boortz from their lineups after his bonehead comments on the VT shootings.

The AG is constrained by the nature of the job, however. Many of his duties are laid out by the law and must be carried out regardless of his political preferences. McDonnell obviously did not care for VA’s foolish “price gouging” law, but he enforced it anyway. So, at least Shannon would have a fair amount of restraint on his actions. This is not to say that wouldn’t screw around where he could, however.

Suffice it to say that if we get a sweep by the RPV, I’ll consider that a very good outcome, just the best the possible one.

  11. [...] Steve shannon thought it would be cute to debate a dog instead of getting serious and debating Ken Cuccinelli twelve times. However, Cuccinelli continues to do the work of the people, while others think campaigning is more important. [...]

  12. Britt Howard says:

I didn’t know about the Boortz issue. I’ll bring it up should I ever see him. That kinda thing isn’t good.

Its weird. With the Mike Huckabee connection between both Cuccinelli and Neal Boortz, Cuccinelli gets a fair amount of support of Fair Tax/Boortz supporters. Perhaps if was an emotion led thing……… The Va Tech killings was just that horrible.
