National Journal Poll: 100% GOP bloggers think Blue Dogs are doing the right thing
By | Friday, July 31st, 2009 | Policy

In this week’s National Journal bloggers’ poll, we were asked “Are moderate Democrats helping or hurting their re-election prospects by resisting President Obama’s legislative agenda?” and “Should the 111th Congress increase the gasoline tax to fund a six-year highway bill?”

On question one, 100% of GOP bloggers said that the Blue Dogs were helping their prospects. My comment was:

“Demonstrating independence of thought and representing their constituents first over party is probably what the Founders had in mind. When it’s all said and done, what matters most is not party, but good government and a healthy respect for checks-and-balances, as designed.”

On question two, 80% of the Democratic bloggers want to raise the gas tax…this in spite of a recession, nearly double-digit unemployment, and the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act already sending stimulus money towards roads (of which less than 10% has been spent to date).
