Amundson to retire; advantage McConville
By | Thursday, June 25th, 2009 | Politics

Jay McConville just got a gift.

Del. Kris Amundson, a leader in the Democratic Party of Virginia, had decided that it is time to leave office after two decades of public service. McConville was challenging Amundson for her seat in the House of Delegates and now will face Fairfax County Democratic Committee Chair Scott Surovell.

Amundson cites in her retirement letter financial reasons for leaving office, stating that the consulting business (which makes up a substantial portion of her communications firm) has been cut-back severely by her clients.

Amundson, whose liberal viewpoints occasionally ran her into disagreement with this blog, still served with integrity and endeavored to do what was right by her constituents and the people of Virginia.

However, other blogs, including BVBL, attacked Amundson regularly…and didn’t stop after her announcement.

BVBL wasted little time going after Amundson, calling her leader of the “House Homosexual Caucus” and claimed that she was having a difficult relationship with House Minority Leader Ward Armstrong.

Amundson believes the criticism stems from her defense of former candidate Jeff Dion. She also says that her and Leader Armstrong speak daily and have s strong working relationship.

Such rhetoric from those supporting Republicans doesn’t particularly help McConville’s cause, as it shows them to be stuck in the politics of personal destruction vice a debate over ideas.

Regardless, McConville has a great opportunity to win the seat; especially as he presents himself as a strong and qualified candidate; a candidate who is an entrepreneur, a veteran, and has a long-standing history in the community.

As long as McConville sticks to the issues and his qualifications, he has a golden opportunity to pick up this seat for the GOP.

Interesting you should mention those two points. Maybe they deserve some further discussion.

Ward Armstrong’s relationship with most of the minority members in Northern Virginia is rather strained, and it’s not just with Amundson. Ward won’t support a lot of the legislative initiatives the NOVA liberals want to push, favors his south-side Virginia colleagues, and leaves a lot of the NOVA contingent out of decision making process. I’m sure Amundson grovels to him on the phone regularly. I’d love to hear what she says after she hangs up the phone, though.

As for Kris’ leadership in the House Homosexual Caucus, she has been behind every effort to promote so-called gay “rights” in Virginia, was Bob Brink’s rearguard after it was learned that Brink got thrown out of his house for having a gay affair, not to mention the whole Jeff Dion debacle, where she was pushing a primary candidate who was trolling for men on gays.com while he was running his campaign. The moniker was suggested to me by a very prominent blogger affiliated with Democrats, because Dems were getting irked that Amundson was embracing Homosexuality so much that it might cause trouble with some minority groups that typically support Dems, but are not comfortable with supporting perversion.

If the so-called “politics of personal destruction”, or more accurately revealing the record of what elected officials do is such a bad thing, maybe Democrats ought to stop feeding me stories about how badly their candidates and elected officials are behaving. They know the Dem blogosphere won’t exercise much independence and tell the truth when it might hurt a Democrat, so a lot of this comes to me, and I think voters need to know this stuff.

I’m glad to see Amundson gone.

In my opinion, that’s not quite right Greg.

Ward is a notorious “ladies man”, in his own mind, anyway. If Amundson didn’t show him the proper “respect” she never had a chance to get anywhere with Beau Armstrong.
