D.J. McGuire points out two good signs for the McDonnell campaign over the past couple of days in terms of polling.
First, the much vaunted “federal stimulus” is starting to lose popularity. According to an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, more people say it was a bad idea than good. DJ correctly notes that McDonnell is on the right side of the argument to refuse accepting $125 million in federal stimulus funds as an unfunded mandate to expand unemployment benefits…especially after the state already accepted $62.5 million in funds and increased the eligibility from 26 weeks to 59 weeks for unemployment benefits. Also, given that Virginia was last in requesting stimulus money for transportation (despite Kaine’s laments that nothing has been done on transportation (lie)), we can see that the efficiency of the “stimulus” funds are not quite what they’re advertised. By the time these federal dollars are spent, the economy might very well be recovered.
Second, in a poll conducted for the liberal blogging flagship Daily Kos, Bob McDonnell leads Creigh Deeds 45-44, this despite many of the cross-tabs favoring the Democrat. A statistical dead-heat in a left-leaning poll just a week after the Democratic primary? Yikes. Not too good for Deeds.
