You call that a bump?
By JR Hoeft | Thursday, June 11th, 2009 | PoliticsIt’s been all Deeds all the time for the past two days. Nothing but glorious press about how Lazarus came back from the dead to win the Democratic primary.
So, you would expect the first automated poll following the primary to have a positive swing in favor of the Democrat. Indeed, it does. Deeds leads McDonnell in the first general election Rasmussen poll by 6 points.
But there should be two causes for concern for progressives…
1) That’s it? There were three Democrats running and the whole Obama mystique from last year. Certainly, in your mind, oh those from the left, there are more that 50% in this state who would support a Democrat. Right?
2) Among that vital “middle ground” people are always talking about fighting over…you know, “where elections are won”, McDonnell has the advantage by seven points among independents!
So, while liberals will point to their “most progressive” candidate as having an advantage, they shouldn’t get too carried away.

Why not? It’s all downhill from here.
This election isn’t about progressivism, and anyone who thinks that Deeds can win by arguing that he’s progressive are way out in left field…literally.
Creigh Deeds is a “Progressive”? Like Brian Moran? That far to the left? I don’t see it that way. A long way to November though.
Looks like the the Republican attempt to market Creigh Deeds as “Far Left” is underway.
Hint to Democrats:
To me, “Progressive” is just the new name for Liberal. I laugh at the attempt at camouflage. Who are you trying to trick with that? You’d better hope that the Republicans will fail at painting Deeds as a Liberal/Progressive, because that will cost you a lot of cross over votes.
Britt and Joel,
Deeds’ labeled himself. I’m not smart enough to start a trend. Sorry I didn’t add the link in this post…it was in the one before this.
Ah! Just went there for the quote. Thanks.
Ammo for McDonnell! Not because its true though. Because it makes Deeds look fishy. Look, I just wouldn’t say nice things about Deeds if he was a flaming commie. He can say what he wants, his record is what matters(same thing goes for self-alleged conservatives). However, that is a potential problem for Deeds because he is either lying or undereducated as to his voting and the records and rhetoric of his primary opponents. This to a degree brings Deeds down to McDonnell’s level(running far to his unatural left). Damaging Deed’s perception as being genuine would be a good thing to do. Kinda like Kirwin’s assault on Deed’s pledge not to go negative.
[...] lead in the Rasmussen poll to 9-points. This is a 15-point swing to McDonnell in two months, which we called here on BD two months [...]
