Random musings

* Notice how newspapers are giving the Washington Post’s endorsement the credit for Deeds’ victory.

* The Mainstream media thinks this is a story of how McAuliffe lost, not how Deeds won.

* Two Northern Virginians split votes. Do regional politics still play?

* No matter what anyone says or doesn’t say, 2008 is ancient history.

* Does anyone really think Terry McAuliffe is going to “do everything he can to get Creigh Deeds elected”?

* DC connections = political kiss of death in Virginia

* Does Dick Saslaw really want a special election in Bath County?

* Will Deeds rebuke negative campaigning that’s done on his behalf?

* Will Democrats be as disinterested in November as they looked yesterday?

* Are unions and national Democrats that interested in Virginia without T-Mac?

* Will the Dems waste all their firepower on Cuccinelli and let McDonnell run free?

* What’s Jody Wagner’s platform? A supreme inability to realize a recession means less money and not more money?

* Gotta go back to 1989 to find a Democrat Attorney General in Virginia, and that was a re-election.

* Democrats dumped an incumbent Delegate in Fairfax. That’s usually not the sign of a Party doing well. While Ward Armstrong focuses on getting more seats, is he letting incumbents sink or swim and making his own job harder?

* Let’s see Creigh Deeds and Jody Wagner have a debate on the Second Amendment.

* Will Deeds admit he’s in favor of the tax increases he voted for just last year?

* Will the Democrats’ “Pat Robertson Clone” ad that they trot out every four years work on a Catholic?

* Will someone let Brian Moran run for his old seat? He did the Democrats such a service by trashing McAuliffe, they should at least give him that.

About the author

Brian Kirwin

The right wants to jeer him. The left wants to censor him. Moderates usually want both. Brian Kirwin is a political consultant and public relations strategist in Virginia Beach with a lightning-rod flair. Brian also serves on the VB Arts & Humanities Commission and frequently appears on Hampton Roads theatrical stages, if only to prove that all actors aren’t liberals. Kirwin’s columns stir up debate and hit the political scene with no punches pulled.

The Democratic primary got 4,600x greater turnout than Republicans’.

With 319,130 ballots cast yesterday, 6.4% of the electorate turned out to vote among the Democrats.

With 7,000 delegates having shown up to their convention, Republicans got .00138% of the electorate to show.

Which party is it, again, that’s having trouble connecting with Virginians, as evidenced by low turnout? Because, reading this muse, its all so confusing!!!!

That’s alright, Bruce. We find that most Democrat supporters are confused.
