PPP: Deeds by 14 (UPDATE WITH SUSA NUMBERS)
By | Monday, June 8th, 2009 | Politics

Public Policy Polling last week showed a virtual three way tie in the primary for the Democratic nomination for Governor with Deeds holding a slight lead after lagging in third since the race began.  Now, on the eve of tomorrow’s primary, Deeds has broken away from the pack:

Deeds is now at 40%, followed by Terry McAuliffe at 26% and Brian Moran at 24%. In the last week Deeds has gained 13 points while McAuliffe and Moran have each advanced by just two.

Deeds now leads in every region of the state except Hampton Roads, including a 38-35 lead over Moran in northern Virginia, where just two and a half weeks ago Deeds was polling at only 11%. Deeds is up over 50% in the parts of the state outside Washington DC/Richmond/Hampton Roads.

What’s huge are the favorable/unfavorable ratings:

Deeds: 57/14
Moran: 47/23
McAuliffe: 40/40

Though the breakdown by race makes me wonder what Terry McAuliffe has done to garner a 60% unapproval rating among Hispanics.

The only poll that matters it the one taken tomorrow, but Deeds has to be pretty happy with his chances going in.

11:20am UPDATE: Large last minute contributions tell a story as well.  McAuliffe is still pulling in the big dollars (especially from unions), but a lot of money is suddenly showing up for Deeds and not much out for Moran.  This seems to be a race between Union interests and right-to-work Democrats.  Tomorrow should be interesting.

11:45am UPDATE: Via James Martin’s Twitter:

SUSA Poll for WDBJ7 – Deeds 42%, McAuliffe 30%, Moran 21%

Crosstabs are here.
