Democrats distancing themselves from DC connections?
By | Friday, May 15th, 2009 | Politics

Well, not Chairman T-Mac, who isn’t shy about his DC roots, campaigning with former President Bill Clinton and using Democratic stalwarts Paul Begala and James Carville to pen fundraising letters, but, apparently, at least two of the Dems are shying away from their DC brethren.

“Instead of touting his brother’s endorsement, Brian Moran and fellow longtime state legislator Creigh Deeds — the third Democrat vying for the nomination — have focused primarily on winning the endorsements of locally elected officials, including most of the State General Assembly.”

Moran’s biggest donor is his congressman brother, Jim, but is barely mentioned on the Moran for Governor website.

McAuliffe though, is used to criticism for his DC connections….and he has plenty to be criticized for, as Emmett Tyrrell relates in his column.

The only uncharitable reference to McAuliffe that I saw in the Post piece was its reference to him as a “huckster.” Yet that is precisely what McAuliffe calls himself in his bizarre memoirs, “What a Party! My Life Among Democrats: Presidents, Candidates, Donors, Activists, Alligators, and Other Wild Animals.” The Post merely was quoting him. It is a surprising quote, but McAuliffe’s identification of himself as a huckster is one of the book’s rare accurate statements.
