Weekend Virginia: Move detainees from Guantanamo to VA?
By | Friday, May 1st, 2009 | Podcasts

On Fred Echols’ “Weekend Virginia“, Waldo and I debate the merits of moving detainees from Guantanamo Bay to Virginia prisons.

Waldo makes the case that these prisoners are not dangerous in the U.S. because they are under lock and key…which I agree with. But it’s not those imprisoned who I am concerned about. It’s those folks on the outside who might want to do something about it at the location where they will be transferred to.

On this weekend’s show, which you can stream live from Radio IQ at 2 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday, we discuss offshore drilling.

Read Rep. Frank Wolf’s statement to Attorney General Holder from last week’s testimony before Congress and learn more about Wolf’s letter and the proposed legislation.

No way no how do I want these terrorists (and make no mistake, that is what they are and who they associate with) coming to Virginia. And even if they are transferred to other states from Gitmo, they must still be processed through Quantico bringing these killers and the threat that you alluded to above right into Prince William and Stafford counties.

One very weak rebuttal which I am not going to defend too vociferously:

If Rep Wolf is so worried about a nuclear, biological or chemical attack as his statement indicates, wouldn’t the presence of these prisoners within eyes view of the Pentagon be akin to placing hostages in the line of fire?

I am somewhere in the center on this subject. But I certainly more in favor of keeping these prisoners here in Virginia if necessary rather then forcing the Obama administration to release them prematurely. If some other state wishes to volunteer I have no problem with that either as long as adequate security can be provided.

I say drop them off in ANWR. The presence of oil under the land should make them feel at home.
