Check the public polls, Kilgore had a commanding lead over Kaine at this time in 2005. We all know how that ended up.

[...] For starters, quite a few bloggers noticed Bob McDonnell’s wide lead on the field of Democrats. Jim Young (Tertium Quids) is somewhat skeptical, while Crystal Clear Conservative and Jim Riley (VV)are quite happy (Jim Hoeft plays it straight over at Bearing Drift).
With all of the talk of "positive campaigning" in the past, it is nice to see it being displayed so honestly and effectively with the McDonnell Campaign. With Bob we have a candidate who we can rally around as a true conservative and just as someone who will listen to our concerns. Isn't that what we want out of our elected officials? Kudos to the McDonnell Campaign for some great polls and for the "Change we can really believe in!!!".
