Fairfax floating Bedell?
By JR Hoeft | Monday, April 6th, 2009 | PoliticsA Republican activist in Fairfax floated the idea that newly elected (this past December) Fairfax County Republican Committee Chairman Anthony Bedell would make a great RPV Chairman.
While Bedell is new as a unit committee chairman, he has a long history as an activist and work in the federal government. His candidacy for Fairfax chairman was supported by Del. Tim Hugo and Supervisor Pat Herrity.
Even during our live-coverage last Saturday, his name was mentioned.
Is Bedell a candidate to be considered?

Anthony would be a great Chairman! I am supporting a move called “Draft Anthony Bedell for RPV Chairman” and would encourage people to check him out. This guy is the real deal and we need him to lead RPV!
Please send an e-mail of support to draftbedell@gmail.com so we can share with him the statements of support! We need Anthony to represent us the “Grassroots” as Chairman of RPV. This guy knows how to win elections and is a pragmatic conservative!
Anthony is a wonderful guy but he is needed in Fairfax as unit chairman.
If RPV gets Anthony then the Fairfax Committee can only benefit…the entire state needs leadership and what better way than a guy from FAIRFAX! We need him for Virginia, too!
When you say pragmatic conservative, what does that mean?
That means he is someone who is a conservative stalwart and believes that we must be a party of principles BUT we must understand Virginia’s changing landscape and run candidates who believe in our principles but can connect with the voters.
Although my approval is certainly the kiss of death to many out there, I think Bedell is exactly what the party needs. He is unabshedly and strongly conservative but he is absolutely competent and pragmatic. He must be to have done such a good job in Fairfax, an absolute Democratic stronghold. If only he would have run last time instead of Frederick we would be on super solid footing right now.
I am not willing to give up Anthony without a fight! For the first time in a lonnnnggg time Fairfax has a new energy and folks are flocking back to the Party in Fairfax. If he goes to Richmond now, his vision and energy will be too far removed. Proximity matters!
Let’s solidify this momentum and energy first. We have to win all three statewide races and many delegate seats before we lose Anthony. I tend to believe that he is allowed to work his magic in Fairfax, the rest of Virginia wins. Not necessarily the other way around, at least not now.
Well, if Loudoun Insider likes him, Anthony Bedell must be a flaming communist.
Well, maybe its just because Bedell also wanted Frederick out.
See – I told you so!
Bedell apparently got to know Frederick all too well and made the sensible choice. For that he certainly deserves praise.
I like Bedell, but I would hate to see him leave before finishing his job in reestablishing GOP muscle mass in Fairfaxy. Randy Minchew in Loudoun is no longer Unit Chairman and could be a centrist conservative who could serve. He has been a delegate to the 2004 and 2008 RNC conventions and knows RPV without being an RPV insider.
But, why not go with Ed GIllespie just to get us through this 2009 election?
Bedell issued a statement today saying he’s flatterred to be mentioned, but that he has no interest in the position and intends to serve out his FCRC term. Good for Fairfax, but a loss for RPV!
Centrist conservative? Oxymoronish………….
I can understand Bedell or anyone turning down the chance to be RPV chair. Gary Byler would be wonderful but, even he would prefer others to take it. I’m not sure anyone in their right mind would want the job at this point.
