Poll: Who’s getting the worst deal in the Frederick saga?

JR Hoeft | April 1, 2009 | Comments (15)

Here’s a question you might want to ponder as we approach the Saturday vote at RPV: Who ends up hurting the most if a vote is taken?

Is it Jeff Frederick? Clearly he is the obvious choice. Resigned as a member of the House of Delegates to do RPV full-time. Was promptly surprised by this move by the SCC only after he resigned. Quite possibly will be removed from a position he was elected to fulfill. May have his business/livelihood impacted. Still has a family to support. May face legal proceedings.

-or-

Is it Bob McDonnell? The not so obvious choice, but he really got the ball rolling when he said “more effective leadership” was necessary at RPV. After that statement, the bandwagon filled-up pretty quickly. Therefore, as the de facto leader of the party, a lot of the onus over Frederick’s removal falls to him. Will folks that support Frederick continue to support McDonnell? Will they potentially seek another gubernatorial, independent candidate – or will they just stay home and not participate?

A choice I’m not providing in this poll is you – the grassroots. Clearly in all this continued nonsense the person getting the worst deal are those who are seeking leadership and a steady hand at the tiller. During a time of economic uncertainty and government overstretch, instead of concentrating on issues that matter, we’re talking about internecine behavior. For more on this subject, read a great post by Shaun at his namesake blog.

And, another choice I’m not providing is the State Central Committee itself. They took a great risk by moving forward on this. Whether it be Gary Thompson, Kate Obenshain, Ed Gillespie, John Hager (and, yes, I know, at least two of those changes could not be helped), the RPV chairman has faced a degree of criticism by leaders in the party. The one constant amongst these changes has been the Congressional District members themselves. Perhaps a little introspection might be in order on what we can do to advance the cause instead of just changing the head. You can only fire the coach so many times before you have to start looking at the players.

Who will a vote at RPV State Central on Saturday hurt more?

“You can only fire the coach so many times before you have to start looking at the players.”

JR, you captured my thoughts perfectly in one sentence.

  2. Lee Talley says:

You are missing a choice. What about Amy Frederick. Her career as a legislator is over no matter what happens on Saturday. Jeff loses and she gets no support; Jeff wins and she’s the target of payback to Jeff (I may not like Jeff but a mans family is off limits.). Personally if it was me I’d have fallen on my sword to keep my wifes candidacy viable. It is a shame Jeff is to vain to do that.

  3. PC says:

This thing seems like it is more about petty political gripes than anything Frederick has ever done. The Hagar backers from the convention just want to control the party once the Republican Brand comes back. The Dems will eventually wear out their welcome, probably not until after Obama’s reelection year, but the Establishment types in the GOP would like to grab the reigns and control the voice of opposition previous to that.

  4. Please stop with all this establishment nonsense. Frederick has been miserbale as a Chairman and has only further divided the party. Absolutely new blood is needed – I was never a Hager fan, but Frederick was not and is not the answer.

  5. O. P. Ditch says:

    Lee,
I believe Jeff keeps his wife’s candidacy viable by proving that he did nothing seriously wrong. This situation was created in the beginning by some disgruntled Hager fans and “party insiders.” In my book, the misguided SCC members and Bob McDonnell are already the loosers in this affair. I am especially disappointed in the SCC members that I know fairly well (Ballenger, Stoeckel, Rich, Watkins, etc).

  6. WTF – I think 32K is outside the margin of error.

I would think the last thing Jeffy would want to do at this point is add any more flames to the fire. The amendment couldn’t wait until after the vote? Maybe someone MADE him do the amendment right now. Wonder if that’s why he has the lawyers on board.

  7. Max Shapiro says:

32k looks bad, when you look at the program SBE provides it becomes believable.

and Brian, I’ve been making essentially the same point all along, and everyone calls me crazy. One more example of you being a hypocrite. Have a nice day.

  8. Outside viewer says:

This is about honesty and leadership
Frederick lied about his taking a percentage and blames everyone else for RPV problems. That is not a leader. The Advance was a disaster with Amy running things and the convention is out of rooms already two months out. The communication with McCain was so bad they asked Jeff to stay away. He treats people like dirt. He is an embarassment.

  9. Not O P says:

OP have you wondered why your friends all grassroots people want Jeff gone. Do they have better information than you do? Do they have to deal with his dishonesty more often than you?

  10. Dave says:

I want to say having worked with Becky Stoeckel for over a year she is by far one of the BEST District Chairs around. Becky stands up for what is right regardless whether its the insiders or not… As my District Chairman I applaud her willingness stand up for what she thinks is right and I find it appalling that Becky or for that matter Juanita would be attacked in such a manner.

Both women pour the hearts into the Party with little in return. It would be wise to perhaps talk to them for a minute and find out why they did what they did. As “ELECTED” Party Leaders we sent them to SCC to do the work, and they have seen a wrong and are trying to correct it. I am quite frankly saddened that these fine women would be attacked on a blog for standing up for what they think is right.

One last point, when McCain materials were scarce in Virginia, it was Becky Stoeckel and the 11th District Committee who came to the rescue providing Prince William County with bumper stickers and lapels much of which for FREE! Where was RPV when we needed materials? The answer I don’t know but thank God for Becky Stoeckel

  12. Sundance says:

    O.P.,
What do you like or defend about financial impropriety for personal fiancial gain? J-Fraud has his hand in the RPV till and i am disgusted by it. How can you possibly defend such unethical behavior? How can Vellie Dietrich defend such unethical behavior? Or Howie Lind? Or Michael Giere? Or Patsy Drain? Or David Ray?
And while we are at it, O.P., how do you defend censorship on your Network by taking down all discussions of J-Fraud’s malbehavior? Is censorship what the Republican Party is all about? I should say not, but apparently J-Fraud and his suppporters say no. You guys dont want a winning political party, you want an exclusive private club of elitest insiders. That sort of attitude will defeat us in November.
IF Bob McDonnell is to bring responsible conservative governance back to the Commonwealth of Virginia, then the RPV needs new leadership. J-Fraud is a a prescription for losing all three offices statewide and losing the HoD.
If you support TerryMac or Brian Moron, then you support J-Fraud for Chairman. It really is that simple. What sayest you to that, O.P.? What makes you and the rest of the J-Fraud crowd think you know more about what the head of our statewide ticket needs than he does?

  13. O.P. Ditch – Ditching the First Amendment!

  14. O. P. Ditch says:

“Sundance”, “David”, “Not O P “, “Outside viewer”, “Loudoun Insider”, who are these people???

Oh, and like “disappointed” is an ATTACK?????????? WOW!

Sounds like what the Dems and the Lame Stream Media would say in a campaign when Reps tell the truth.

I wonder where we can find the names of ALL the SCC members who signed the boot Jeff letter? Maybe I could be disappointed in them also.

  15. Britt Howard says:

O.P. Ditch, thank goodness you didn’t say “Very disappointed”. Then feelings would have REALLY been hurt! Lol.
