Today Mike Huckabee and Bob McDonnell packed the house bright and early this morning at the Virginia Beach oceanfront.
The Oceanfront Hilton provided the perfect backdrop as guests began arriving around 7:15 am and stayed several hours. The band played Eagles and Buffet tunes that seemed to put everyone in a festive mood.
McDonnell & Huckabee made themselves available to the press at 7:30am. Several TV stations were there, the VA Pilot was MIA. Must still be covering the flashing lights over Virginia Beach.
Bob McDonnell spoke of the future he sees for Virginia, and touched on his plan for economic development: green jobs, renewable energy technologies, drilling 50 miles off the coast of Virginia, nuclear energy, Right to Work law; opposes Card Check, and the desire to keep Virginia the best place in America to do business.
Why is Huckabee stumping for McDonnell? He fully understands all eyes are on Virginia, waiting to see if we’ll lean red or blue in November. After thanking the attendees Huckabee encouraged continued support noting “when the church asks for contributions you are expected to give with a cheerful heart – in politics it’s different, you can give grumpy if you want.”
In closing Huckabee provided an anecdote about potluck dinners. Anyone who has ever attended potluck dinners knows what it means to hear the three words “Keep your fork.” Even those that thought they were done after eating a fabulous feast will reconsider & indeed keep their fork. His message to Republicans, “Keep your fork – it isn’t over yet, the best is yet to come.”
Huckabee is familiar with the road that lies ahead for McDonnell. Huckabee ran for State office during the peak of the Clinton years & despite the democratic sweep occurring at the time – he won.
