UPDATED (1:20 p.m.) Latest Frederick rumor: resignation Friday?
UPDATED:
There will be no eleventh-hour deal to save embattled RPV Chair Jeff Frederick. Apparently the one meeting that could have fostered a deal devolved into a shouting match didn’t work out. Attendees of this meeting included Morgan Griffith, Jeff Frederick, Morton Blackwell, and Kathy Hayden Terry. Apparently Frederick left the seven-hour meeting thinking the matter resolved.
Today’s rumor: Frederick resigns Friday.
(This rumor has been completely discredited.)
I was also informed that if a vote is required on Saturday, state central is going to shut-out the public. Where I had previously been told I’d be allowed to observe and report on the proceedings…I am now being told no-dice. So much for transparency.
In the meantime, more unit committee chairman are calling for Frederick to resign…
March 27, 2009
Chairman Jeff Frederick
Republican Party of Virginia
901 East Cary Street
Richmond, Virginia 23219Dear Jeff:
As fellow conservative grassroots Republican leaders, we join the congressional delegation, our gubernatorial nominee, the General Assembly leadership, ¾ of our elected state central representatives and our fellow Republican county chairs in urging you to resign as chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia. For the sake of party unity and to ensure that we can win in November, we believe this is the proper course of action.
There is much to be done in the coming weeks and months, and we believe this is the right time for new leadership.
Sincerely,
Evans Thomas

So what’s the end-state? Let’s say Frederick does resign: Who in the Republican Party has the time and the talent and the will to handle a mess as dysfunctional and incestuous as the Republican Party of Virginia? And, should their sanity be questioned for wanting the gig?
Apparently a couple names have started floating out there, including Sandy Liddy Bourne, Pat Mullins, Jay Hughes, Chris Saxman, Shaun Kenney, Charlie Judd, Paul Harris, Jim Gilmore, George Allen, and John Hager.

I am a big fan of Chris Saxman, but I hope we learned our lesson about officeholders as RPV Chairman – it’s not a good idea. No way to John Hager – he lost fair and square and is too old. Jim Gilmore – could anyone be serious about that?!!!
You are jumping too far ahead of events. We simplify life greatly when we take it one step at a time. Who might replace Frederick is irrelevant at this point. If Frederick is removed, we will settle the matter of his replacement in due time.
What is important is that justice is served. Whether he is the Chairman of the RPV, President of the United States, or an ordinary citizen, each man, woman, and child deserves to be treated justly by their fellow citizens. The media show we have received thus far does not constitute justice. It is only mildly entertaining thoroughly disgusting.
Since Frederick has denied the charges, we owe him the justice of a fair and impartial hearing. Did Frederick break the rules? If he did, what rules? Does breaking those rules merit Frederick’s removal from office? We have yet to have an impartial hearing determine any of these things.
If they are shutting out the public, I guss that means it will not be a recorded vote either. What happened to the days when Rs had courage? Besides, what is going on that they are ashamed of.
I have two thoughts on a new chairman should it be necessary. First is that if he or she is not part of the insider group, they would be crazy for trying to work with them. Second, if they are… they are not worth having.
SCC says they are representing the grassroots… then, as our representatives, we should demand entrance! Represetatives report to the boss… or is there another boss pulling the strings?
It’s going to a interesting week. Lot of elbows going to be thrown and a couple of technical fouls too.

Gary Byler, someone who could pistol whip all these jokers who think they know politics, but don’t know the first thing about real public policy
I believe that any new chairman would have to be elected at the Convention, giving the grassroots a voice in the process of finding a replacement.

Gee, Jason, they did such a great job the last time. I think that the best candidate for the position is Pat Mullins. Pat is a proven conservative who has managed two units and knows what it takes to be Party Chairman.
Pat Mullins managed FCRC back when Fairfax County was the epi-center of Republican Party politics. He has taken Louisa County and done the same thing. We need people who know what they are doing. Beyond all of Jeff’s obvious boo-boos, he was unfamiliar with the workings of the Party and what the job of Chairman really entails…Going out and raising money and being the face of the Party.
I too, like Chris Saxman, but unfortunately I do not think he is right for the job. Jim Gilmore is a non-starter, Hager would never get through State Central and while some have rumored Sandy Liddy Bourne (I think she is a great woman) I do not thin she is ready for this position.
Though, any of the above would be better than what we have…so, I guess any way we go, its a plus.
AM – Well, this time there are more delegates and a different environment that would be involved. Not sure if the result will be any better, but just the same, if I recall correctly the SCC can only appoint someone to serve until May 30th when a new chairman will be elected to serve the rest of the four year term (two more years, I believe), barring another 3/4 majority being upset with them.
Wow……Someone uses the name “Another Moderate” to tout Mullins for RPV Chairman.
Interesting. Fitting too.
Louisa? I am from Louisa. How many times has this guy been up and on the road at 4 a.m. putting up signs, stood in the County Courthouse til midnight waiting for returns, sat at the County Fair booth handing out literature oh I dunno how long ago……since he moved out of NoVa to Louisa County? How many times has this guy attempted to get moderates into the little ole strong-willed Louisa Republican Committee? But where are they now? Not in the Committee……..and NOR ARE THE conservatives he possibly ran off. Just my opinion. Just saying.
I don’t know Frederick. I like the underdog though especially with what I’m reading as alternatives. I read alot. I am thinking lots of folks do lots of reading.
George Allen? Really? Really?
I left the Party a while back….good ole boys. Yep.
Cantor? HA HA HA HA HA.
