Will the Virginian-Pilot and Vivian Paige criticize Glenn Nye?
By Brian Kirwin | Sunday, March 15th, 2009 | Catch-AllGuess what I got in my mailbox last week. A four page, full color mailing from Congressman Glenn Nye. I’m wondering where the criticisms are from the Virginian-Pilot and Vivian Paige (and other Democrats) who excoriated Thelma Drake for doing the exact same thing!
About Drake:
“does she have to spend thousands of taxpayer dollars to print a four-page, four-color brochure to brag about it?” (Virginian-Pilot)
That’s what I just got from Glenn Nye – bragging for his vote on the stimulus package. Where’s consistency from the Virginian-Pilot?
Obviously, when Thelma Drake does something, it’s worthy of media contempt, scorn and assaults, but Glenn Nye does the exact same thing, and the Pilot offers him Op-Ed space to brag some more, as they did on March 1.
Vivian Paige, noted blogger, took Thelma to task, too.
“Like the previous one, this one is in full color and looks like any other candidate mailing I’ve seen, with a small exception: in the fine print, are the words: This mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense.” (Paige)
Well, imagine what I see on Glenn Nye’s full color mailing: “This mailing was prepared, published and mailed at taxpayer expense.”
Let’s go Democrats, media, and everyone else who said a critical word about full color mailings from Drake. Time to either criticize Glenn Nye for the same thing, or admit that it’s only partisan attacks you’re truly interested in.

Thanks for wasting our money Glenn……..again. I gues the stimulus bill wasn’t enough…..had to waste money on ads too.
I would encourage Rep. Glenn Nye to go view the John Stossell 20/20 report on “Bailouts and Bull” that Amit posted.
In a word….NO! There will be no criticisms.
A few points, Brian.
1. I haven’t seen the mailer. Pretty hard to criticize what you haven’t seen.
2. The post to which you refer related to mailings done during campaign season.
3.Did you miss the update in my piece?
Perhaps once I see the piece, I’ll have a comment on it.
Well, since I got it, and you didn’t, I guess your criticism of “Was this piece mailed to all voters in the 2nd? As far as I can tell, the answer is, sadly, no.” would hold true for Nye.
I didn’t expect you to hold Nye to the same standards you held Republican congressional members, but you could’ve proven me wrong.
There is no way to prove a negative, Brian. How could I prove you wrong when I was not aware of the piece? It could be in the stack of mail on my hall table that I haven’t had time to go thru, it being tax season and all. So as of right now, I don’t know if I have it or not.
Of course you didn’t get the mailing. Why would Glenn Nye benefit from sending a full color campaign ad to someone who is already going to vote for him (all of your friends who are D’s).
Targeted advertising at taxpayer expense, at least he isnt wasting the convincing mailings on people who are already mindlessly following him.
So, kudos to trying to expand his support.
Brian: She spanked you and you deserved it… She claims she didn’t see it. Kind of hard to argue with that position but you still tried.
[...] funded “information” pieces that look like campaign mail, something that generated SCREAMSfrom the Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself), and he’s swimming in special-interest [...]
