Senate GOP Leadership Supports Frederick’s Removal
By | Tuesday, March 10th, 2009 | Politics

Tim Craig reports that Senate GOP Leaders have expressed their support of the ouster of Jeff Frederick in a letter to vice chairman Mike Thomas:

“An overwhelming majority of our caucus has expressed concern over the state of affairs at the Republican Party of Virginia in recent months and has lost confidence in Delegate Frederick’s leadership,” the letter states. “Heading into such an important year, it is critical that our state party have the full confidence of our candidates, our elected officials, and our grassroots. Like you, we are convinced that the only way to ensure this change is a change in leadership at RPV.”

UPDATE: Too Conservative has the letter available here.

I am extremely disappointed in Senators Wagner and Obenshain for signing that.

What will be interesting is how some of my fellow Libertarians feel about them. Wagner and others might get bonus points for it. Not all Libertarians want to see a healthy RPV like I do.

I suspect that Democrats also regard this with a good deal of euphoria.

This action does nothing but, serve the “good ol boys” of the old guard. It fragments the party and saps Frederick backer votes for those signing on to this craziness in future elections.

Less than a year and you’ve already passed judgement?

This may be a pivotal point in Virginia politics.

Pivotal point? Britt, that happened long ago, when the RPV boys got a little drunk way up there in their Hillbilly Hideaway. What happened next can’t be described as pivotal. You can’t even say it was all down hill from there. They are in flat out terminal velocity free fall.

That’s what happens when you let the hypoxia of power cloud your judgment.

Meanwhile Joe Six Pack is taking bets on which one hits the ground first.

Darrell, I guess I’m just holding out hope that they won’t toss Frederick out after less than a year. There are a few good conservatives out there and I guess that makes me want to hope there’s something worth saving.

Pivotal to me anyway. After this, I might just give up on them completely. I guess I was hoping deep inside the RPV would learn their lessons and end their self-destructive ways. I know………I’m probably giving them too much credit as I wait for the “Fat Lady to sing”.

Can someone enlighten me please? What exactly is Jeff being “charged” with that’s caused such a huge lack of confidence? I’m trying to keep up but I can’t seem to find anything substantial.

Terry, he is blamed for the GOP election losses. Evidently the losses that occurred before he even took the chairman’s seat and the one’s after that are really a result of incompetence prior to Frederick. Frederick is the scape goat for a long standing downward trend that preceded him.

Frederick is blamed for poor performance in fund raising. Nevermind the fact that the economy hurts both parties now. Nevermind the fact that people have tired of years of Republicans governing as anything BUT conservatives. Frederick is blamed for natural realities such as fund raising success going to percieved winners (mostly democrat at this end of the pendulum swing). Why fund a loser? It is seen as a bad “investment”.

Frederick is mocked for disagreeing with the theory of evolution on Charles Darwin’s birthday. Keep in mind he was making a statement of opinion and not attempting to legislate his belief. Frederick has been called an embarrassment to the party over that statement. I disagree with him, I believe that there was and is evolution and that God created it. However, I RESPECT his belief and would never call him a “joke” because he held diffing views. Which party is the “religious right” in? When they mock Frederick, don’t they mock them and every creationist?

Frederick is being charged with not being one of the “good ‘ol boys” from the old guard. He doesn’t bow to royalty within the RPV. He doesn’t pander enough to elected Republicans either.

He is blamed for the “Tweet” that was all about nothing. There wasn’t going to be a defection, just a Democrat pondering voting with the Republicans. This crap about a defector that could be persuaded after the RPV/Frederick heard the “Big News” that really wasn’t, is preposterous. Further, Frederick made a good move that highlighted the confusion and turmoil in the Democrat party. Instead of the GOP running with it and taking advantage of Democrat weakness, they jumped at the chance to attack Frederick for something that never would have happend in the first place.

I have heard allegations that the connection of Fredericks Tech company to the RPV has been said to be unethical. I don’t know enough about that. I know that one of Frederick’s goals was to get the RPV to be more Tech savy and institute some needed reform. That said, it is the most worthy of all the idiotic charges leveled at him. Perhaps or not, the alleged connection should be disolved.

The worst of it is the there are many Frederick backers that will feel less than loyal to those running for election that also are targeting Frederick. Some Frederick attackers also isolate cultural conservatives. The party is attacking itself and splintering. For what? Ego? To ensure a Democrat victory? Democrats must be rejoicing at this perverse suicide attempt.

Its a mess. It doesn’t make sense.

Thank you Britt. I’ve looked around and all I’ve seen is the same things you’ve posted.

As to the allegations regarding Frederick’s tech company, on which I’ve seen nothing substantial, just allegations, that’s easy enough to repair.

The other stuff is pure BS as far as I’m concerned. Especially fund raising. Aside from the economy, those of us who believe in limited government aren’t going to open our already over-stretched pocketbooks to support a party that seems to love Big Government.

I was and am a Frederick supporter because I had a sense that he understood that the party has been seriously damaged, that all the crap in DC rolled right out of the beltway and spread all over Virginia, and that because he recognized the problem, he would seek ways to fix it.
