Game Over

beerfestWith the smoking ban coming our way, what is the government going to restrict next? Just over 3 years ago a popular establishment in Arlington, Dr. Dremo’s, created a beer pong rec room for their patrons. Apparently hosting drinking games was too much for VA ABC so it was stopped. Dr. Dremo’s has since been torn down (I’m not blaming it all on the ban but if the glove fits) Did the young professionals of Arlington stop playing drinking games? Nope. It naturally moved outdoors and has since been the source of a number of noise complaints. Now the Arlington County Board is discussing whether to ban outdoor drinking games.

Granted if a party is disruptive to the neighbors there are already noise ordinances, etc the police can use to ensure a peaceful neighborhood. Arlington Board member, Walter Tejada, said “What people do in the privacy of their own homes is their business,”. Absolutely. So why isn’t what people do in the privacy of the private businesses they patronize also their business?

After over a year of experience here in Chicago, now that the fanfare has worn off and the lobbyists have moved on to other states, it’s clearly obvious that trying to ban smoking in small neighborhood “shot and beer” bars is pretty useless. Many small bars in my area ignore the ban to keep their customers, neighbors, and local police (many are patrons when off duty) satisfied. In areas where real crime is an issue, the problem of undesirables being attracted by groups of people outside the bars and causing disturbances on the PUBLIC street, property that the owner has no control over, far outweighs the issue of people peacefully smoking inside a bar, bothering absolutly no one, Bars ignoring the ban also result in fewer kids being exposed to more smoke than ever before at home when adults gather at their homes, instead of at a local bar. Having kids exposed to smoke at home just gives the ban fanatics a reason to want to ban smoking in private homes, which is already happening in California. Once started, these bans never stop.

This kind of why I just want to be dictator of the world. People seem to only want to stick their nose into other peoples business and restrict their actions. I figure that I should pre empt them before they render me inoperable.

I mean come on, Arlington has a very young population, but a lot of the men are whipped effeminate commies whose passive aggressiveness, which unconsciously comes from their overbearing superfeminist wives, is taken out on anyone who has fun or makes money.

Well if you don’t like what the Arlington County Board is planning to do why don’t you run for office?
