Keep the Pillars Standing!

“Religion and morality are the essential pillars of civil society.” President George Washington

Throughout human history, liberty and freedom have only existed in a civil society. A civil society only exists when it is supported by religion and morality. So what does this mean for us?

Religion has always been an integral part of the United States. Our Founding Fathers believed that our rights and liberties come from our Creator. They believed that government should not posses churches and use them as a tool for power. However, they never believed that churches should not be involved in government matters. As a matter of fact, we would not have a Bil of Rights today if it were not for a group of Virginian Baptist churches presenting the idea to James Madison, and offering their support on that condition. If it were not for the Judeo-Christian principles enshrined in our Constitution then we would not have freedom of religion today.

Morality is the second important pillar. I have heard some argue that immorality is a “right.” However, President Washington did not agree, he saw immorality for what it was; a threat to civil society. It has never been wrong to legally protect morality, nor will it ever be.

The time has come for strict constructionists to unite behind a cause. That cause is clear.
