I'm still a Frederick fan. The fact that he gets so much negative press just means the dems and RINOs don't like him. To me, that's a reason to support him.

Does it matter whether Griffith encouraged JF or JF did it spontaneously? It is still stupid. The fact that Griffith's e-mail appears to be trying to absolve JF of misjudgment appears to dispel the implication in the post that Griffith was setting up JF for a fall. But the most benign explanation for Frederick and Griffith is that neither of them has any sense or judgement. The next level scenario is that Frederick just couldn't contain himself, a trait not prized among skilled political leaders.

From the information here and on other blogs (both right and left leaning) it sounds like Northam never intended to switch parties, but had disagreement over specific issues with his own party. DUe to these differences he was willing to vote with the republicans to establish a power sharing on two committees. Note that Obenshain specifically named two committees

"There has been bipartisan concern expressed over the leadership and operation of the Senate Finance and Courts Committees. The concern came to a head today. Notwithstanding the fact that there are 19 Republican Senators and 21 Democrats, we began the day with enough Senators to reorganize these two committees – naming as co-chairs of those Committees Senators Wampler and Stolle – both Republicans – effectively forcing bipartisan cooperation in the running of these two critical committees" - part of Obenshain quote above

It appears the guys in the House totally misunderstood, but this is just an educated guess.
