Pat Edmonson raises lots of money in two days
By Brian Kirwin | Monday, February 9th, 2009 | Catch-AllPat Edmonson, candidate for the Democratic nomination for Lieutenant Governor, didn’t have to report large contributions early (that’s at the end of the day, not the beginning) but she did, and it’s amazing what happened to show up in the mail box.
On February 4th
$6500 from a retired educator in Norfolk
$4000 from a WVU retiree in West Virginia
$3200 from a farmer in Dayton
$9250 a hotelier in Indianapolis
$7005 (not 7K…7005) from a self-employed home based tutor (tutoring must not be in a recession)
And on February 5th
$7550 from Cheyenne, Wyoming
$6750 from somone with a PO Box in Virginia and an employer in, where else? Cheyenne, Wyoming
Not bad for two days. Plus over $8000 in in-kind contributions for web design, cell phones, computer use, printing of Flyers, banners, documents, and office supplies and equipment, all of which just happened to come in between Feb. 3 and Feb 5th. Amazing!
Campaign spokesman Ethan Day explained that Edmonson’s contacts are nationwide and the support isn’t surprising. “Pat had just attended a National School Board Conference, at which she was very successful in raising awareness and funding around her campaign,” explained Day. “Her work with the National School Board Association and the National Hemophilia Association show her extensive national contacts”
It’s odd that not a penny of these large donations come from the city in which she serves in elected office, Virginia Beach. The campaign explained that they do have many lower dollar donations from Virginia Beach, but none over $1000. It’s also odd that a lot of these large contributions come from people who aren’t listed in VPAP as ever giving to any other Virginia candidate. It’s a heck of a way to start getting involved.
The campaign stands firm that these are people who have worked with Pat Edmonson in the past, and added her support for campaign contribution limits and stricter reporting requirements.
They say they’ll continue their swift reporting of large donations throughout the campaign.
