RPV district chairs have heart-to-heart with Senate Republicans
By | Thursday, January 29th, 2009 | Politics

Today in Richmond, district chairs from the Republican Party of Virginia met with Senate Republicans to see what level of commitment senators will have to this year’s campaign.

From the meeting, senators promised that they will work to support candidates for statewide office and the House of Delegates, but made no commitment to working with the House Republicans on key legislation.

In some respects, it’s nice to see that RPV is being proactive and trying to get everyone on the same sheet of music – it’s just too bad that no one can agree on the music.

I am not sure where you got your information but it is not entirely correct.
The Republican Senate Cacus invited the Executive Committee of the RPV to a day at the General Assembly. The event was a very welcomed reaching out to the grass roots and and leadership of the RPV. The day was nothing but a very positive day for me. I met nearly every Republican Senator and we as a group had very open and positives discussions concerning issues, the upcoming elections, and the state of the Republican Party. I don’t agree with any negative spin on the day. Every Republican in Virginia is aware of what is at stake in this election cycle and the only way we will prevail is if we are united. If we can’t come together now we might as well put a lock and chain on the Obenshain headquarters. If there is any Republican Senator, Delegate, SCC member, Unit Chairman, District Chairman, Party Chairman, or Party activist that won’t get behind Bob McDonnell, Bill Bolling and our Atty General nominee this year then they need to find another party to call home. I want to thank every Republican Senator for a wonderful day at the General Assembly and I look forward to doing it again sometime in the future.

    Linwood,
Thanks very much for your comment.

I asked a district chairman point blank if Senate Republicans would support House Republican initiatives and this leader was ambivalent.

I concur that the day was largely positive…but until the two legislatures see eye-to-eye…we’re well on our way to becoming a minority party in Virginia.

I welcome your and any other SCC members comments on this subject. We need to solve this…and quickly.

With the budget fight coming up soon, the GOP needs to be united…not divided as in years past.
