Bush greeted with jeers at inaugural
By JR Hoeft | Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 | PolicyAccording to The Hill’s “Blog Briefing Room”, President Bush was mocked as he entered the dais.
“Nah nah nah nah, hey hey, good-bye,” a section of the crowd chanted.
The crowd packed immediately below the podium received Bush in stony silence when he took his seat on the stage surrounding the podium where Barack Obama was scheduled to take the oath office to become the 44th president of the United States.
The jeers are among the final public feedback Bush will receive as president.
Seems that short-term memory is infecting the masses.
Since 9/11, we have liberated millions, protected American soil, and had record-setting economic growth and minimal unemployment.
We still have work to do, but I would say we’ve more than dusted ourselves off.
Isn’t keeping America from suffering another terrorist attack at least worthy of some polite applause?

I wish to be amongst those that give Dubyah a smattering of applause (even though I did not vote for him, I voted for Kerry).
But I object to the attempt to point out his achievements as “we have liberated millions”. While we might have freed the Iraqis from the yoke of Saddam (and these are the ONLY millions you might be referring to) it yet remains to be seen what comes about as a result.
As for “record setting growth” I am completely on the opposite side. What growth that came about was based upon false premises. We cut taxes while we increased spending. Now we pay the price as a result.

There was only ONE attack on American soil and it came 9 months into Pres. Bush’s first term. If the primary job of the President is to protect America (and American’s) he failed. HE FAILED MISERABLY!
How about the president before him who had Bin Laden in the cross-hairs of a predator drone and didn’t fire? Did he fail, Ry?
That guy was also president when the WTC was first terrorized, the USS COLE was attacked, and the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed.
Seems to me he got a very loud ovation today, and that his wife was almost his party’s nominee and will be the secretary of state.
Is he a failure too?
Ry,
And if another attack comes during the Obama administration are you going to be just as judgemental?
Personally, I think the Obama administration is going to benefit on these fronts from steps taken by the Dubyah administration. Steps that came about as a result of Dubyah’s leaderhship that Obama (as a member of the Senate) himself voted for.
Ever heard about wire-tapping?
The anti-Bush bigotry will be a sad mark upon our history. The people who mindlessly jeered fmr. President Bush will one day eat their words. It will be interesting when the currently classified National Intelligence documents are released.
Pres. Bush served with honor. He was reelected to office and served the maximum amount of elected time that the Constitution allows. He handled the first major mainland attack on the United States since the War of 1812. That is significant.
Ex-President Bush? Thats so yesterday.
The people who exercised their First Amendment rights most likely lost their jobs due to Bush’s “free market” philosophy of compensating CEO’s until their companies went broke, or “smaller government” by firing all the regulators who were suppose to mointor the banking industry. Or maybe one of their kids came home in a body bag “freeing” those millions who couldn’t be bothered to do it for themselves.
Maybe they were just pissed at being lied at about WMD’s that didn’t exsist and posed no threat to America, but it made Billions for Haliburton and Black Water.
What ever their reason, that’s the great thing about America, Bush wasn’t in office long enough to revoke Freedom of Speech.
That some good Kool-Aid, Frenchy?
Democrat bloggers are applauding this. Even Chris Matthews called it “bad form” but the haters on the left just can’t stop.
sticks and shoes may hurt me but your jeers will never hurt me? Probably what he was thinking.
Anyway, it is dangerous to use a terrorist attack as the sole metric to measure whether a president protected Americans or not because it is not a question of “if” but “when”. More Americans were killed in an unnecessary war than were on 9/11. So which is worse?
Amit, are you insane? When America was attacked, it darn sure is right to measure the President if he was able to prevent further attacks for SEVEN YEARS!!
To say otherwise would mean that if we had been attacked, no one would’ve said anything about George W, and you know that ain’t true.
So much for the new era of civility in politics…

kirwin, our soldiers in Iraq have been attacked almost everyday over the last 5 years by insurgents and I consider those terrorist attacks on Americans. you give Bush credit for preventing terrorism on US soil for 7 years but I could say Clinton did the same for 8 years in office.
whether we like it or not, another terrorist attack on US soil is going to happen. the Patriot Act and Gitmo may alter when, where and how the attack is performed but will not permanently prevent it. the best way to address terrorism is through economics and a fair foreign policy.
Amit,
The first domestic terrorist act occurred on in 1993, so we weren’t without a domestic terrorist act for 8 years of the Clinton presidency. And if you want to include attacks on US soldiers in Iraq as acts of terrorism, then what do we say about Black Hawk Down, USS Cole, etc.?
Facts are facts, and Bush leaves office without any more domestic terrorist acts on his watch. That is something that should be lauded.
I agree the USS Cole and Embassy bombings were terrorist attacks against the US as was the DC sniper and Oklahoma bombing. But when a US citizen serving his/her country is killed abroad because they were intentionally put in harm’s way, I am not okay with that.
I don’t think Bush is a bad man. I just think he has bad judgment and first principles.
I did not care for Bush because he lied to me and my wife about our murdered son. But I respect him for taking action after hhe was forced to. He could have done it before but chose to over look all the murders before he was in office. But I would not jeer him, and or laugh at him. At least he did something worth while. But as liberals jeering? They are the new Nazis.
