Nye heads straight for the cookie jar

Didn’t take Glenn Nye long to ask for government spending. Of course, he’s asking for money for Virginia’s military bases…

In a letter to Speaker Pelosi, Nye wrote:

“Military construction is a key component of both our national security and our national economy. Every dollar spent on military infrastructure supports not one but two family wage jobs – providing for both the workers who plan, design, and build the structure, as well as the military personnel that it supports.”

“The men and women who serve our country in uniform deserve the best facilities and resources that we can provide, and now the Congress has an opportunity to support our troops even as we work to bolster the economy.”

Thank you, Rep. Nye. Good job asking for the funding.

Now the question is will the freshman congressman get it?

    hahahahahahaha

Such a joke. Conservatisim my ass. Thats it I’m going full time libertarian.

I will give you a chance J.R. but please explain why this is not an earmark or special interest project. If you can honeslty look yourself in the mirror and explain the difference I have a bridge to sell you.

God, I love this blogging thing. It’s so fun to have these discussions.

Being a frequent visitor to the military bases in Hampton Roads, I can assure you that the infrastructure is in dire need of improvement. Literally, some of the piers at Naval Station Norfolk (NSN) are crumbling.

And, if you have ever tried to park at NSN, good luck.

There are buildings from pre-WWII being used for command and control.

Heck, the commander of the fleet is based out of what was once a furniture store!

These are just a couple examples…I could go on.

The reality is that most defense money is sucked up for operations and weapons systems. Hardly any of it goes to infrastructure.

So, if you believe in a strong national defense that has the resources required to maintain superiority over our enemies, then this “earmark” is indeed a good thing.

Intereseting this could go so many directions this is half yanking on your chain a bit but more to keep you thinking. Just going to throw all of these out there

Since the reality is that Obama is dolling out “free” money Nye is actually smart on this.

Strong national defense is one of the three legged stools of the Republican party

You did give a shoutout to the fiscal conservatives. Ideally these infrastructure improvements would be offset by a reducation in weapons/operation systems. I think we can agree this is possible. Also ironically, the blue dogs are more of a leader on these type of issues than the Republicans lately

You provided excellent defense of a needed earmark. Contrary to popular belief most earmarks are needed and are not wasteful. The tough part is making choices and tradeoffs which fits into the fiscal conservative paragraph above. Actually making choices like these (eliminating other areas or even gasp raising revenue for needed imporvements) doesn’t make you a popular politician. Add on the crazy economic situation and you have a giant mess.

Republicans are all about tax cuts and Democrats are all about new programs. Neither one wants to reduce existing spending to pay for either of their priorities.

There is some hope I am really liking Senator Kent Conrad ND D. He has been offereing up some really great quotes lately and he seems to actually understand fiscal resposibility unlike many of the democratic and republican congressional clowns.

Way to go Nye! I’m sure we can depend on your support when the Navy presents it’s infrastructure improvement budget, for Mayport.
