Lawsuit filed against former Speaker Moss

Looks like there is more fun in Norfolk as John Wesley Hill (former Norfolk GOP treasurer candidate) has filed a lawsuit against current treasurer and former Speaker of the House Tom Moss and current Vice Mayor Anthony Burfoot for conflict of interest.

Moss, who ran as an independent in 2005, but has suddenly come into the good graces of the Democratic party, has hired the vice mayor to be a deputy in the treasurer’s office. This after Moss strong-armed the council to increase his pay by $25K in 2005…which has now been increased by $40K by 2009. Whew…talk about a pretty pension! And, since another constitutional officer got wind of this plan, it has now been implemented for all six constitutional officers.

So, regarding this lawsuit, what I am saying is that the Vice Mayor, who serves on Council, now wants to be a paid deputy of the person whose salary he sets! Talk about dysfunction!

Additionally, compensation to the constitutional offices is paid by the city of Norfolk, which faces millions of dollars in deficit this year.

Nice to see that the former Speaker is still into cronyism and into “protecting” the taxpayer money.

However, don’t get your hopes up that this lawsuit will actually change anything in corrupt Norfolk…apparently the lawsuit is being held in circuit court, and the judge in courtroom number “three” is a longtime friend of “Treasurer” Moss.
