Virginia Politics On DemandAbout
Bearing Drift was established in 2004. The name comes from the relative motion of objects at sea. If there is no bearing drift, and the distance between you and the object is closing, there will be a collision; therefore, action must be taken.
Most navigation rules state that the best course of action with constant bearing and decreasing range is to alter one's course to starboard - the right! Therefore, most of us at Bearing Drift ascribe to this rule - if it looks like the ship-of-state is going to wreck, move right; you can't go wrong!!!

Shout-outs
"If you want to know what's really going on in Virginia politics, read Bearing Drift. A must-visit site for Virginians interested in politics and policy. " - Gov. Bob McDonnell
Sites like Bearing Drift have now become important players that candidates and voters can no longer ignore. - Ryan Nobles, NBC-12
"Bearing Drift has become an indispensable source in the campaign, providing not only pointed conservative-oriented analysis but extended podcast interviews analyzing the directions in which the campaigns are headed. It is a prime example of how the Republicans can counter the wide advantage Democrats have had in the new media." - Dr. Bob Holsworth

Excellent post
This will be an interesting issue to watch. As painful as it may be. I would invite people to look at Raising Kaine archives and see their very frayed relationship with the Democratic Party Infrastructure.
I agree with the conclusion. RPV cannot run the blogs as a top-down model. The lesson is to be learned from the obama campaign. Provide the tools and ISSUE PAPERS (Shout out to Norm what do we stand for again?) and let the grassroots self-organize and run things. It should be crystal clear by now that what works in Southside is different than HR is different than the Valley is different than NoVa.
Very well said, indeed. I hereby nominate Jason Kenney to head up RPV blogging strategy!
Did I miss something? Who insulted the blogosphere? If you’re talking about Jeff, he simply said he doesn’t typically read blogs due to a time management. I can understand, as one could spend hours and hours on blogs, neglecting other things. And just because Jeff doesn’t read them, does that mean others around him don’t? I don’t know, but he got to this website last week somehow to make that post. Finally, if you have a suggestion or a complaint, he offered, contact him. He responds to all my emails, and no other RPV chairman in my memory has been so accessible online.
I forgot to ad the most important line
We can all agree on one thing GO MCDONNELL
Amen to that, novamiddleman.Go Bob and Bill!
Thanks; I found this writing to be insightful and well written.
It seems the 2009 McDonnell/Bolling team has and will have things in its favor for many months while the dems will be battling it out to come up with their candidates/message, perhaps is some way analogous to how McCain was settled on long before Obama; yet McCain squandered those months and never, for many reasons, was able to embrace and employ new media effectively to communicate a unified message and/or motivate grassroots; hopefully your criticisms are not prophetic is some way and the RPV can see the light and repent (turn around) before its too late. Unrelated and perhaps despite their relations with new media and how effectively new media serves their goals though, the 2009 GOP ticket is something to be excited about. I’m not confident in the RPV leadership vis a vis new media in particular, but I am confident in the candidates to influence and overcome.
