Norfolk high school goes a month without a fight
By | Tuesday, November 25th, 2008 | Catch-All, Policy

It sends chills and quivers down my spine to even think about it. Maury High School in Norfolk has gone fightless since Oct. 21st.

It warms my heart to see such success! An entire month without a fight in school has got to be quite an accomplishment nowadays to make such a banner story in the Virginian-Pilot.

You know, I think even back in my days at Maury that would have been an accomplishment. And Maury was probably considered the best of the Norfolk public schools, no idea if that’s still the case though.

I suppose it depends on what scale an event has to be to be considered a “fight”. I remember Moose, one of the security guards, would regularly break up minor scuffles, or show up before it got to that.

    Brian,

Are you criticizing positive progress? Are you saying we should just give up on Norfolk’s schools or something?

Just wondering. Perhaps it was wrong for me to do so, but I did detect a level of sarcasm in what you said.

LD, I’m just ruminating how sad that this is what counts as positive progress.

It’s also sad that in a metropolitan region of nearly two million people this is above-the-fold headline news.
