Obama’s first priorities: Abortion, oil drilling bans and stem cell research

What? You thought Obama was going to cut taxes for 95% of America and end the Iraq War and turn the economy around? Oh silly you!

The Associated Press reports that the first things Obama plans to accomplish include a ban on oil drilling, lifting abortion restrictions, and changing the policy on stem cells.

Ya know, if Democrats weren’t so predictable, this wouldn’t be so fun! Bipartisan huh? Not by a longshot. Obama has Clinton’s staff and he’s quickly on his way to Clinton’s 1993.

    Brian,
The word “abortion” does not even appear once in the AP article nor does any referenve to reproductive healthcare. You are merely inciting fear and loathing from the trenches of the dwindling neocons.
Change has come my friend. Change….

The word abortion does appear, but not in the context of limiting or expanding it. It appears in respect to stem cell research. I’m not sure, Brian, you can make the link.

However, what does concern me is this:

“He’s not even a Republican (Robert Gates),” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada said. “Why wouldn’t we want to keep him?”

So, since when is Sen. Reid making cabinet decisions? I understand the whole confirmation thing, but is Reid going to be in on making executive decisions?

“One of Bush’s first acts was to reinstate full abortion restrictions on U.S. overseas aid. The restrictions were first ordered by President Reagan and the first President Bush followed suit. President Clinton lifted them soon after he occupied the Oval Office and it wouldn’t be surprising if Obama did the same.”

Now, T, please take your lies and personal attacks somewhere else.

Before you start calling people liars, Brian, you should recognize that I said I didn’t see that paragraph either. It doesn’t exactly “jump” from the page.

However, not to quibble, but this executive order has nothing to do with U.S. abortion law…it ties U.S. aid to limiting abortions in those countries we are providing the assistance to.

While abortion, no matter where it is, is a practice that should be diminished, if not outright eliminated, I still feel most Americans are concerned about the procedure here and not overseas.

It sure tells me what Supreme Court choices he has in mind.

As far as saying “the word abortion does not even appear once” being a lie, if it isn’t it’s at least wrong. It takes 2 second to word search an article. In T’s thirst to attack me, he didn’t check his obviously incorrect facts.

Here’s a question. If it’s ok to drop bombs on children in Iraq and Afghanistan what’s you’re problem with abortion?

Oh I know, we aren’t killing children intentionally, but the results are the same.

If you really cared about preventing abortions, you’d be lobbing the various churchs around the world to allow for sex education and handing out condums, because until the pharma-cons develop a drug that inhibits the sex drive in teenagers (and you pass a law requiring them to take it) teens are going to have unprotected sex.

And here comes the abstinent crowd with “the Answer.”

    Brilliant move by Obama.

He knows fiscal conservatives want to talk about fiscal issues - and base their disagreements with the administration and the rebuilding of the GOP on those issues. A potentially winning, at least debatable, argument.

    So, what does he do?

He wants to begin his administration with executive orders that are going to get the religious right all riled up and active.

    Great.

Actually, it is a pretty good plan. Rile up the religous right and they’ll keep the GOP completely disorganized.

Then the only way the GOP will be able to be competitive is to try and court moderates, which will force those republicans in Congress to work with Obama’s White House on issues that everyone agrees on.

Who knows, he may be smart enough to get a majority of this country working towards something together, leaving the extremist on the Right and Left howling in the wilderness where they belong.

    Obama,

as can be seen by his first acts and his campaign methods and constantly broken promises will be a no rhyme and reason president. He will do whatever he can to push his far left view including tax increases directly and indirectly.

And why should democrats try and bail out the automakers, no one bailed out the airlines, yet they are still running. It is called capitalism, all government regulation does is create more expenses for everyone in the short term and long run. In the short term government regulation increases the expenses on businesses who provide services and products to the people who choose whether or not they need or want them. In the long term these expenses get passed down to the people.

Want an example??? take the current housing crisis, with Clinton’s regulating a free housing market requiring the lenders and banks to loan to people who can’t afford the loan. Now you can only borrow on that idea for so long until it bankrupts you and that is what we are seeing now.

Remember “Ask what you can do for your country” not “what can the country give me?”

Only deregulation and lower taxes will decrease costs of American’s doing business. The less regulation a business has the less they spend to make sure those regulations are followed. Get my drift?
If not, it means the less you’ll eventually have to pay for a product or a service besides the effect on inflation.

The Fed can only lower the interest to 0. Lending laws of pre-clinton need to be reestablished.

It’s hillarious how strained the logic is to try and pin the housing crisis on the Democrats. I guess it makes sense to some of you, but then so did Palin. Whatever.

Say it with me: President Obama, President Obama.

Now, don’t you feel better? No? Too bad, I sure do.
