Nye wins; Goode leading
By | Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 | Politics

Glenn Nye, the former state department official and first-time candidate, has defeated Rep. Thelma Drake in the second congressional district.

Drake, who received criticism for supporting the president too much and voted, initially, against a re-vamped GI Bill, couldn’t stem the anti-incumbency mood that swept the country last night.

As of now, the State Board of Elections is reporting that Nye has a 3.5 point lead with just two precincts left to count.

In the fifth district, with just one precinct to go, incumbent Republican Virgil Goode, has just a 1/100th of a point lead on challenger Tom Periello. If this lead holds, it will return the much maligned Goode to Congress. But we won’t know that for sure for a little while – the narrowness of the lead is sure to bring a re-count.

UPDATE: Drake is not conceding the race just yet. According to the Virginian-Pilot, 26,000 absentee ballots remain uncounted. Drake, who is nearly 8,000 votes down, would have to win approximately 17,000 of the votes, taking the absentee ballots about 65% – 35%. With the high-concentration of military voting absentee, this remains in the realm of possible.

The report also stated that Drake would not speak with the Pilot. Heh. Given how much the editorial board hates her, is it any wonder?

Wait for the provisional and absentee votes, else it’s black arm band time.

Yes, she should speak with the media. She is supposed to be the people’s representative, wouldn’t it be nice if she stooped down to speak with us regular folks?

As for the military ballots, if the vets were paying attention to her votes on veterans issues they’ll be running against her 65-35.

I was able to work next to her a couple years ago. I thought very highly of her, until she intentionally… how can I say this in a nice way… shitted on me. I am a “regular folk” and I thought she was in touch with people like us, but that was only because she needed me at the time. Sorry Thelma, I really hate to see the Democrats pick up another seat, but maybe youll think about how you treat people.

I am glad you see my point. You don’t forget those who literally help you get in office. It will come back twice as bad. At times I regret all the hard work I put forth to help such a selfish person. I just hope that when she votes in congress or should I say voted she had the 2nd district in mind.
