Prediction – Obama voters will hurt Nye
By | Monday, November 3rd, 2008 | Politics

I know Glenn Nye is hoping for some straight-ticket coattails, especially as he’s been cozying up to Mark Warner in his ads, but I think it’s Obama that may just put Glenn Nye’s campaign on ice.

I have an odd feeling that a whole lot of the much-vaunted “new voters” coming to vote for Obama may just stop there and forget the rest of the ballot. Heck, the federal “no reason needed” absentee ballot requires that you skip the rest of the ballot. That may hurt Meyera and wound Warner, but it will absolutely slay Nye.

How would that hurt Nye? As a new voter, if they wouldn’t have turned out to vote anyway without Obama….

Easy one. Pollsters aren’t counting ballot dropoff, and Nye is counting those as votes.

It also “hurts” Nye because Republican voters typically keep voting the ticket.

What gets lost by the libs is that Republican turnout is going to be high tomorrow too; perhaps not as high as the Democrats, but high.

Therefore, if there is voter drop-off by a lot of new voters voting for “The One”, that likely hurts Nye.

I see what Brian is saying clear as day.

As I’m not a Virginia resident, I haven’t been following local politics that closely. I did hear him speak the other night at the Chris Rock event at the Norfolk Opera House (hey, it was a free show).

He seemed like a fairly intelligent person and a very good public speaker. I don’t know his history and I doubt he’ll win over Thelma Drake, but I do think he’ll be around in Virginia politics in the years to come.

    Frenchy,

What is your HOR that you vote in? I assume you voted absentee! I know we almost never agree, but I hope you voted… Civil duty and all

    HOR is California.

  7. FrenchyTheSailor November 3, 2008 20:32 pm

Oh, and yes I did send in absentee ballot.

    SW,

Apart from the whole “she’s a republican thing” how is Thema Drake? I’ve heard good and bad about her.

Sorry guys, that doesn’t make any sense. If folks turn out to vote they’re going to vote the entire ticket.

You are engaging in unscientific wishful thinking – and are making unkind judgements about Americans simply because they have a different political bent than you. So, my poli-sci degree/ BS meter is pegged on that one.

My take on the election, the fact is that you have one candidate who volunteered to serve in Iraq with the State Department. Who has truly served this nation – and a sitting Congresswoman whose greatest accomplishment on behalf of our country is selling a few homes. So, do the Republicans want a real patriot with real world experience, or just another political hack?

“So, do the Republicans want a real patriot with real world experience, or just another political hack?”

That’s a great endorsement for Jim Gilmore over Mark Warner.
