3rd Debate – Open Comments
By | Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 | Politics

Both of these guys are on their game.
Obama is eloquent and (wonder of wonders) McCain is actually talking about cutting spending and criticizing Obama’s goodie bag.

Sound off in the comments on your own thoughts about this last debate.

Did either candidate really hurt or help themselves?

Obama is trying to wiggle out of his vote against the Born Alive Infant’s Protection Act.

    He’s talking absolute nonsense.

I really like McCain’s spending freeze. Good stuff — I would love to see that happen.

I thought mocking a woman’s health was a brilliant move. The air quotes really made it special.

And really, what was McCain thinking with the whole gag/tongue thing at the end?

In any event, it’s four up, four down for the Dems. McCain’s a smart and (when he’s unscripted) decent speaker, but overshadowed in all three, I think. Anyway, doesn’t really matter. McCain’s best hope for this debate was to force an error by Obama. Didn’t happen (seriously, all politics aside – do any of you think you could resist being baited like that? I certainly couldn’t have.). Steady march through the next three weeks, and it’s done.

I think both candidates did well. Obama, again, was a clarifier n the debate. McCain on occasion seemed to go off on tangents, and really lost me at times. If I HAD to declare a winner, it would be Obama. Not so much for Obama’s performance, but for McCain’s constant misinformation. McCain had some good moments where he connected with people, but was not able to close the deal due to being misinformed. The missing pieces hurt him.

    Overall, I think it’s a tie.

Not a shocker here from MB and Joel. I would suspect two liberal bloggers to say as much…as they should expect what I am about to say.

McCain definitely won. When McCain went after Obama on his propensity to distribute wealth and raise taxes on anyone during a time of economic uncertainty, I was impressed.

Just watched the debate, and i’d have to say Obama won this one. Of course, by my score board thats McCain 2 to Obama 1, and 2-2 overall (Biden also won his debate IMHO).

Although, given the general quality of the debates, maybe they could just cancel them and hold like 5 Al Smith dinners instead. At least i laughed a little during that.
