I think they should raise our taxes, everytime they propose spending our money.

If Congress had to come to the American people and tell them they had to increase taxes for each of the pork barrel projects they wanted passed, I think Americans would be paying a lot more attention to what those clowns are doing with our money and we sort the wheat from the chaff fairly quickly.

But it will never happen. Americans are lazy. They’d rather slap it on their credit cards than manage their money/taxes.

Reagan promised fiscal responsibility and spending cuts to match his tax cuts. Instead we got saddled with a skyrocketing deficit and metasticized national debt.

“Read my lips – no new taxes.” We see what happened when Bush 41 tried to deal with the resulting deficit.

Then when Clinton took the stage, he himself was bitten by the Reagan Legacy and followed Rubin’s advice that addressing the deficit was more important than his promised tax cuts.

Bush 43? “I don’t think our troops ought to be used for what’s called nation building.” ‘Nuff said.

While I agree with you Stephen that McCain is hardly the ideal conservative, he is a damn sight better than O’Bama
