New McCain tactic: divided government is good

Jeremy Hinton | October 13, 2008 | Comments (3)

It looks like there may be a new argument being weather ballooned by the McCain campaign, namely that having the same party in control of both the Legislative and Executive branches of government may not be the best thing for the country. Johnathan Martin at Politico has the details. Of course, the interesting thing is that the premise for this presupposes a poor showing for Republicans in Congress.

Personally, i think this may be McCain’s best argument yet in the pursuit of independents. Just looking over Bush’s term, one can see the validity. I even agree to a point (and have said as much previously), though not enough to change my voting preferences in this election. In 4 or 8 years though, who knows, we’ll have to see what happens.

You know, this is John’s biggest problem. He keeps listening to his cadre of political wonks come up with new plans to win the election.

What he should be doing is telling the American people why they should vote for him, not why they shouldn’t vote for Barrak.

He can’t say why they shouldn’t vote for Barack… They’re the same reasons for not voting for McCain.

I have been beating the divided government drum for two years on my blog. I voted for John Kerry to get divided government in 2004 and lost. I supported a straight Dem ticket in 2006 to get divided government and won. This year I will vote to re-elect divided government by supporting John McCain.

This scholarly article from a Constitutional lawyer puts more than a little academic cred behind the divided government thesis. The only way to re-elect Divided Government in 2008, is elect John McCain for President. It is the right thing to do.
