Obama - Questions Unanswered

Obama must answer this:
“Why in the world was Barack Obama still communicating on the phone or via email with Bill Ayers up until 2005 — when in 2001 Ayers gave widely publicized interviews claiming he had no regrets about the bombing, indeed regretted that he had not done enough, and did not necessarily have any remorse either about his Weathermen career?”
(From Victor Davis Hanson). This is not a “distraction.” This is not about something from Sen. Obama’s childhood. This was going on only three years ago. Please read the whole thing.
What might this mean? When a man keeps company with men like that, it means so many things on so many fronts. Here’s one front, one Obama likes to talk about: Afghanistan.
“The real position of these latter-day traitors is to stop the War on Terror completely, humiliate the United States, and lull the country back into a September 10th state of mind. Neither Obama or anyone else in his sniveling cohort give a tinker’s damn about Afghanistan. What they do know is that if they can get the War in Iraq shut down to “send more desperately needed resources” to Afghanistan, then shutting down and surrendering in Afghanistan will be child’s play.”
Think that’s too strong? Again, read the whole thing (from American Digest).
And why if this is so serious, aren’t you hearing more about it? Many reasons. Here are some, from Roger L. Simon.
You will probably watch the evening news today, for 1/2 hour at least. Why not spend 10 minutes reading the articles I have linked? There’s much more out there. Just start with these and ask if you really want Sen. Obama to be President of the United States. He would be making decisions that will influence our entire world, and he will be making them from a mind formed, informed, and conditioned by long-time associations with Ayers, Dohrn, Wright, et al.
You may have your questions about John McCain, but they are nothing like the kinds of questions that are out there, UNANSWERED, about Barack Obama.

October 20th, Virginia Republicans strike back!
I find it very interesting that the same people who are so determined to “question” Obama about his relationship with Ayers aren’t near as interested in “questioning” McCain about how he “knows” how to get bin Laden or how he “knows” how to fix the economy. I mean, really, what’s more pressing? Obama’s mutually beneficial political/economic contacts with a convicted terrorist -or- fixing the economy and/or finding bin Laden (who, last I checked, was a worse terrorist than Ayers)??
Or what about “questioning” Palin about why she stood by and let women in Wasilla be charged for their own rape kits? No? Not interested in that?
Ok so it’s pretty clear that the anti-Obama ilk aren’t really that interested in a quest for knowledge, so what’s the real motivation? now now you lefties, stay away from that racial side… that’s too easy to go to, and if I may, too boring. No I think rather there are people who really do not like Obama and can’t justify their dislike in any logical way. Which is a shame because I actually support Obama but can give you all sorts of reasons why I’d rather have a better choice than him.
But if you have one guy who says, “Hey I know how to get bin Laden” and another guy who had connections with a terrorist (and let’s be honest, Ayers is an incredible piece of *#!& who I wouldn’t mind seeing put down permanently) but was nonetheless far tamer (and far less active) than bin Laden.. who would you be more interested in “questioning” ?
Hey Shane, all McCain has to do is ask Joe Biden where bin Laden is, cause he says he knows.
As for the rape kits, try a new line. That issue has been thoroughly and completely debunked.
Debunked? How and where? Because even Fact Check backs that one up.
Oh and Mike… I see still no “questioning” for McCain… nice. Thanks for proving my point.
OK, I read your articles Jane. One makes some valid points on political expediency, something both campaigns have exercised (though while Obama seems to be distancing himself from some of his more extreme ties, McCain is courting them). The author of another seems to be a remarkably delusional card-carrying PNAC zealot. And another laments the press’ seeming reluctance to dig into Obama’s past and questions Obama’s character, noting the mote while ignoring the beam of McCain’s character and integrity issues that have been generally given a pass by the press, presumably due to his halo-like POW mantle.
Both candidates have skeletons. Obama’s look to be his associations, while McCain’s are his actions. Given the choice, i’ll take questionable associations over questionable behavior.
Jeremy,
1. Deciding to associate with someone, and continuing to associate with that person, is an action/are actions.
2. McCain has owned up to bad judgements - the ending of his first marriage, the Keating 5 stuff. Obama seems to me to be trying to skate past his.
And, in l’esprit de l’escalier, sort of, let me add that those two McCain things I mentioned, while personally bad, are different from Obama’s Ayers association. Cheating on your wife is bad. But having an ongoing professional relationship persons who actively plot to kill people and harm the United States… that’s a whole other level of bad. (Like my writing at this hour of the night - I seem to be able to access foreign phrases but not to put together a coherent English paragraph).
I see your point on associations being actions. However, if i were to judge people purely on their assocaitions, i’d have some very different opinions of people (heck, BK alone would taint most of the folks here
) Regarding the Weathermen - AFAIK, no one ever died in any of their bombings (except themselves), and i believe they usually sent out warnings before bombings to prevent any casualties. This does not in any way excuse at all the crimes they commited, just quantifying your “plot to kill people” note above.
In a just world, Ayers would have served serious time for his crimes. But as it is, he did not, and went on to become a major figure in Chicago politics, particuarly in educational reform. As this was and continues to be an area of concern for Obama, its not surprising that the two would have worked together in this capacity.
As far as McCain, his affairs do reflect a character defect, but i could live with that. It wouldn’t be the first time obviously. And the stories of his hotdog attitude and hair-trigger temper certainly aren’t reassuring. But for a man who bases his entire campaign on his “principles”, his abandonment of them is too much. He used to excoriate the religious right, now he embraces them. He once stood firm for fiscal discpline, now he ignores it. His disdain for negative campaigning has been thrown out the window in what is pretty much considered the most negative presidential campaign in modern history. But the coup de grace for me was his vote against blocking the Bush adminstration from wiggle-room on torture. That to me was the ultimate abandonment of principle for politic.
