AP editorializing on Palin

Excerpts from an AP article on Sarah Palin:
“Palin, recharged after last week’s debate, is animating the party’s conservative wing with harsh attacks against Obama.”
“She’s still the carefully handled national politics greenhorn.”
“She brushes off some of her criticism as if it were lint on her jacket.”
So much for reporting facts and not opinion.

Well…those do seem to be the facts as far as I can tell.
Certainly, based on your past comments, Joel, through the lenses you look through.
Yes, this would have been much better:
“Palin, drained after last week’s debate, is depressing the party’s conservative wing with milquetoast attacks against Obama.”
“She’s still the mightily abused national politics insider.”
“She seems crushed by some of her criticism as if it were heartfelt wounds.”
Seriously though, is our perception really so different that you find the above to be non-factual? She is scaling up attacks on Obama (”palling around with terrorists”). Interview access has been very controlled, and she has not been making the rounds on the political talk shows that would be considered normal for a politician in her position. She is new to the national political scene, to the point that is touted as one of her best assets. And she hasn’t seemed to be affected by the regular criticism and mockery by her opponants.
What should make everyone sick is this
“Palin was asked about an Associated Press analysis that … the criticism carried a “racially tinged subtext that McCain may come to regret.” ”
The Associated Press decided that comments about Obama and Bill Ayers is RACIAL??????????????
Well, it’s because you can’t talk about a person of color associating with terror without implying that he is merely associated with said terror because of the color of his skin or purported religious affiliation. Clearly.
Nevermind that the terrorist in question that Obama was pals with (oh, wait, I’m sorry, “friends” with) is white. Or that the terror is not based on religious or racial grounds.
I’m not sure who should be more insulted, Sarah Palin or the American’s who’s intelligence is being questioned by the AP’s statement.
Jeremy,
The opinions of the author are clearly on display.
1) On the “harsh” nature of the “attacks” (if they should even be called that…if the left thinks they’re attacks, then perhaps the right ought to question the associations even more)
2) On how Palin is being used by the campaign
3) On how she handles criticism
If you can’t see that, then you’re looking the other way.
JR, I’ve had many, many media folks say “That’s not opinion. That’s pretty much the truth.” Just like Jeremy.
If they agree with the opinion, then they don’t consider it an opinion. They consider it a fact. And in the liberal echo chamber that the press calls home, their opinions might as well be facts. It’s not like anyone in the newsroom disagrees.
