Praise where praise is due
By Jeremy Hinton | Saturday, September 27th, 2008 | PolicyI am a self-proclaimed Liberal. As such, I’m not often much of a fan of the more right-wing faction of the House. I must say however that right now, I wish to offer my sincere thanks and gratitude to them, including Virginia’s own Eric Cantor. Their actions today (or rather yesterday now) in presenting an alternate crisis-mitigation plan to the administration are to be commended.
I say this not because I think it’s a good plan, or because I know the current administration proposal is a bad one. I thank them because I firmly believe that the best consensus is one reached through adversity, argument, and advocacy of differing views. The biggest mistakes are usually made when everyone already agrees, and there is no dissent or question. Every disagreement, every opposing view adds a depth of perception and insight to any decision, and makes the end result stronger and better. And though there already is some contention between the Democrats and the White House over the plan, the criticisms of the conservative faction of the House will in the end (IMHO) result in a better crafted and more well-devised policy.
And so, for what is probably the first and likely the last time for a while , I give a big thank you to Rep Cantor and his fellows in the House. Your contributions are noted and appreciated.

Well said, Jeremy.
I was quite proud of Minority Learder John A. Boehner who said basically if the White House expected them to roll over and be rail roaded, they were quite mistaken.
I have been a fan of his since i first met him in College. I went to school in his District (Miami U) but my home of residence was that of John Kasich, another GREAT American (and hopefully Ohio’s next Gov)
I totally disagree with you:-)
