Rev. Al Sharpton at GOP Convention
By Brian Kirwin | Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 | PolicyHe spoke at a forum, and it’s must see TV. Some quotes:
“My mother didn’t raise me as to what I didn’t have. She raised me as to what was expected of me and what she wanted me to be.”
“This whole embrace of a culture of thuggary and hoodlumism and anti-social behavior is not what those in the civil rights movement fought for. We didn’t fight for the right to be decadent, we fought for the right to be excellent.”
“You can not say ‘schools must be improved, but we can not judge the performance of teachers.’ That is unacceptable.”

While I find myself, possibly for the first time in my life, agreeing with Al Sharpton on the nature of the problem, I suspect that there is tremendous disagreement on the solutions. Specifically, I do NOT want the federal government involved in K-12 education in any way.
I can’t understand why he’s speaking at a Republican event. Doesn’t make sense to me. I can not believe that compromise is a good thing, even in the name of the children.
