ODU prof selectively offended

This is what makes me wonder why taxpayers employ some people to teach.

Del. Sal Iaquinto is hosting a Godfather-styled fundraiser. Last year, he did a “Pirates of the Caribbean” event. Fortunately, pirates aren’t hypersensitive dweebs who get offended at a movie.

But college professors sure can be!

“I found it utterly offensive,” said Marra, an Italian-language professor at Old Dominion University. “It perpetuates the kind of stereotypes we’re accustomed to getting from Hollywood, not our elected officials, especially one that has Italian roots.”

And this story perpetuates the stereotype that those who can’t, teach.

I don’t remember the ODU revolt when Bill and Hillary Clinton spoofed THE SOPRANOS!!!!!! That must’ve been just fine in the enclaves of higher education. But a Republican fundraiser? Sound the “offended” alert!

I’m offended that ODU charges tuition if this is an example of the intellect of their educators.

Marra should lighten the hell up.

Where is teh outrage of ANY Dem doing anything?!?!? Show me where Marra ‘objected’ to anything a lib did.

I am so sic and freakin’ tired of fake outrage.

I say, if it offends you, don’t go. Sticks and stones… Grown ups can hack it, remember?

PLUS, whenever one argues against the ‘N’ word in music we are told, it is ok, becuase the person using it is black… Well Iaquinto is Italian, so there…

Oh that’s right, that standard only applies to lefties.

Man, I sure hope this doesn’t impact McCain’s “Grumpy Old Men” fundraiser next month. I got a trooper hat and everything!

    Jeremy,

I am lost between the connection between Sen. McCain and Del. Iaquinto…

I don’t always agree with Jeremy’s politics but, come on Squeaky, that was actually darn funny. That might have been comedy rather than a partisan shot. Well, maybe a little shot but, still….pretty funny.

That said, most people will see that selective outrage for what it is. The professor has probably made similar Italian jokes in good humor but, failed to be offended by it. Personally I’m offended that the professor was offended.

Maybe voting for a new Regional Government might be offensive(HRTA) but, a “Godfather” themed fundraiser is perfectly fine.

I hope Del. Iaquinto raises a good bit of money from it…..just to offend the professor even more.

Ugh, I am tired of everyone being “offernded” as if there is asome right to NOT be offended by anything… Trust me, this porf is not “offended” or “outraged”… this prof is simply using this as an opprotunity to make some noise, like an annoying squeaky wheel… wait, what?

And I am offended that the Squeaky Wheel still hasn’t learned how to type or spell check in the four years he has been commenting here!

I don’t think stupidity knows partisanship guys. These people obviously have no sense of humor. I think it’s a great piece.

Speaking as someone who has Mastio on one side and Maggipinto on the other, I am as Italian as they get. And since one side of my family comes from Brooklyn where my grandfather worked on the unionized docks and my great uncle worked in the city sanitation department, I can say with some authority that the last thing Italians need is for someone to play the victim card for us.

Perhaps we should get together and take out a hit on anyone who insists on being offended on our behalf.

Since when have Italian’s started feeling like victims and discriminated against? That’s soooo turn of the last century!

You can do what I’m going to do, contribute to his campaign at:

Maybe Marra should be “untenured” if there is such a word…
