“Painful”
By JR Hoeft | Friday, August 8th, 2008 | PoliticsMcCain released a new ad today called “Painful” that describes Obama’s economic policies which include higher taxes on the middle class, small business, seniors, and life savings.
However, that message gets lost in the fact that the McCain camp is yet again using Obama’s purported celebrity along with a magazine cover of Brittney Spears.
Once it was funny (“Celeb“). Twice it was mildly amusing (“The One“). The third (“Family“) and fourth times — it’s painful.

I disagree; you only really see Spears if you’re looking for her. The message on taxes is a strong one.
Its the only line of attack that seems to have ever had any effect. So they’ll keep playing it, long after its effectiveness is gone and it just makes them look silly.
As for the ad itself, its remarkably disingenuous and reaching. The Bush tax cuts are set to expire in 2011. Obama’s support of a non-binding budget resolution that bases its revenue target off the assumed expiration of those cuts is where McCain gets his $42000 figure from. If not voting to renew a prior tax cut that was deliberately sunset at signing is a tax hike, then McCain’s supporting a 18.4% tax hike on gas on Labor Day. Ridiculous? I agree. But hey, if you’re gonna make that argument against Obama, it should apply against McCain as well.
It’s especially dishonest since all the analysis of the candidates proposed tax reforms show that Obama’s plan will actually result income taxes on the middle class being LESS than under McCain’s plan. So much for Mr. Straight Talk. I’m finding it harder every day to remember what it was i used to like about McCain.
hey, politicos, just remember that while we are tired of these ads, most of the general public is just now getting them. Campaigns know they have to repeat their message until they are sick of them if they hope to get any traction. That’s why you are going to hear ad nauseum about how McCain is in the pocket of big oil.
