Wow…Hampton Roads is big!

“I’m so glad to be here in Norfolk,” [Michelle Obama] said at Old Dominion [University]. “I knew it was big. I knew hundreds of thousands of military personnel and family lived and worked here. But I wasn’t prepared for just how big it is.”

Yes, and we even have running water and electricity.

You know, this is the first time in my adult life I’ve ever really been proud of Hampton Roads.

Now you know why they don’t let her speak in Ohio!

If you think about it though, it is somewhat interesting/amusing. I believe the hampton roads MSA is the 4th most populous MSA in the southeast, just after the Atlanta MSA. yet nationally, if you say you’re from “Hampton Roads” (or heaven forbid tidewater), most folks wouldn’t have a clue.

Hampton Roads is a very small body of water.

Tidewater is a large region comprised of three MSAs artificially combined into one MSA.

Hampton Roads is big; Barack’s proposed tax hikes are even bigger.

So Michelle Obama did not realize how large Hampton Roads/Tidewater/WhateverYouWanttoCallIt
is until she saw it in person. So what.

A presidential candidate’s wife has to know everything about every single metropolitan area in the nation. Intellectually she knew H.R. large but did not really internalize it until she saw it first hand.

I knew Niagara Falls was big but I had no idea how big it was until I saw it in person. I knew Wrigley Field was a great place to watch a ball game but I had no idea how great it was until I saw one in person. I knew sex was great…well you get the idea.

Get over yourself and your self-absorbed indignation (”Yes, and we even have running water and electricity.”). Find something more meaningful to get upset about and try to see things from a realistic perspective.

Barack Obamas wife is a bit crazy, but I get the confusion. She probably assumed that we all cling to our guns and our religion.

I just want a First Lady who isn’t an airhead, and doesn’t try to emulate Barbi.

“So Michelle Obama did not realize how large Hampton Roads/Tidewater/WhateverYouWanttoCallIt
is until she saw it in person. So what.”

Well maybe her staff could have briefed her so she would not say something that condescending… Like “You know, I do not think a lot of people appreciate how large and important this region is”

This way it shows she researched and promotes the area. Just saying.

    Squeaky-
You’re right on the mark. I wasn’t explicit because I didn’t think it needed further explanation, but judging by the nature of the comments, I guess I was wrong.

Barack Obama has been here. Tim Kaine is under consideration for VP. You would think the campaign would have laid the ground work for Mrs. Obama ahead of time so that she would understand what this region is all about.

Reid — Tidewater describes every low lying tidal region along any coast. Hampton Roads, while it is indeed the confluence of the James, Elizabeth and York Rivers, still is a better regional identifier, IMO. Just as “The Bay Area” refers to the greater Tampa/St. Pete region, Hampton Roads can serve the same purpose.

I believe the original version of her speech said “I like to get out and see you little people once in a while”

This is even a stretch for you guys! A whole speech and THIS is the best you can mangle a sentence? Pathetic.
