The Virginian-Pilot is reporting that Jody Wagner, one-time Democrat congressional candidate, is resigning as Virginia’s Secretary of Finance next Friday, Aug. 8.

Wagner, who has never held elected office, is expected to announce she is running for the Democratic nomination for lieutenant governor, where she will face a primary challenge from John Bowerbank, who has also has never held elected office.

When asked whether she will run, she responded, “I’m considering my options,” which is effectively like flipping off a reporter and saying, “I’m not telling you yet.”

According to a release by Gov. Tim Kaine, Richard “Ric” Brown has been appointed as the new Secretary of Finance. Hopefully he will do a better job of predicting state revenues.

Actually, Bowerbank is on the Russell County Board of Supervisors. He won his first term in 2007 after bankrolling his entire campaign, and apparently decided that four months was enough public service to warrant running statewide.

Bring it, Jody. I think I speak for a lot of Republicans when I say we’d love to run against the one who personifies Kaine’s budget repeated budget and revenue gaffes. I’m sure Jon “just because I fund myself entirely doesn’t mean no one supports me” Bowerbank will have a thing or two to say about her $ management too.

Someone has to be thrown to the wolves…. Apparently no Democrat/ic senators want to fall to Bill Bolling again….

As a taxpayer and as an educator I cannot see how anyone could in good conscience support someone who was an active participant in the forecasting mismanagement that is Tim Kaine’s legacy. Having attended more than one meeting on higher ed finance, I’ve heard first hand how this process works and how mismanaged it is. I’m inclined to agree that she may be the Denicrats sacrificial lamb.
