Kaine is still all the “buzz”

Here’s an excerpt from an interview with Tom Daschle by Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC:

MITCHELL: …let’s talk about tim kaine…

…he’s told reporters that he’s had serious talks with Obama about joining the presidential ticket and has provided documents to the campaign. but no foreign policy background and he may add to voters concerns about Obama’s experience.

DASCHLE: i think the real question is judgment versus experience. barack Obama has shown a great amount of judgment. he’s shone a real effort to reestablish the kind of by partisanship we need. to show what good judgment can be about, to personify that and build the kind of consensus we need in implementing good public policy.

MITCHELL: kaine was on radio today and defended his experience. he talked about his talks with Obama and relationship. is he talking too much about it?

DASCHLE: i suppose when somebody puts a microphone in your face, tough respond with something. he indicated earlier today again, that he has not sought is position. but i think that when rumors get out, you’re accosted.

MITCHELL: let’s take a look at what he said when he came out. he was asked a question or two in spanish. this is one of his advantages. he was in honor durs as a missionary. senator Obama — so, he’s not a candidate for number two, but helping senator Obama, a great man and he thinks would be a great president, but he is not a candidate.

DASCHLE: thanks for that interpretation.

MITCHELL: i had help with that, myself. that’s pretty good that you can see him campaigning in new mexico, nevada and some other states that you’re trying to win. bringing in virginia would be a very big deal. changing a state from red to blue. i don’t have to tell you, he’s an attractive candidate.

DASCHLE: as you say, i think the virginia opportunity for us his huge. reaching out to hispanic populations is a big deal. i have no idea who barack is going to choose, but if he would choose tim kaine, there’s a lot you could say for that ticket.
