Brownlee primary donor has given over $60K to Democrats

Over the past couple weeks, there has some preliminary skirmishing between State Sen. Ken Cuccinelli and former U.S. Attorney John Brownlee as they vie for the Republican Nomination for Virginia Attorney General.

It began when Cuccinelli announced that he out-raised Brownlee last quarter, to which Brownlee responded that he really out-raised Cuccinelli because Cuccinelli transferred money to his AG campaign from his state Senate campaign.

The back-and-forth continued after last week’s podcast when Shaun Kenney accused Brownlee of being “not as strong” on pro-life issues as Cuccinelli, to which Brownlee argued that Cuccinelli’s siding with Gov. Tim Kaine on not extending the death penalty to accessories (the so-called “triggerman rule”) constituted Cuccinelli not totally protecting “innocent” life.

Cuccinelli called that assertion “silly.”

Now, Jason Kenney cites that Brownlee’s primary donor, Ted Weschler ($25K), a stockbroker from Charlottesville, has also donated $20K to Gov. Tim Kaine, $20K to Mark Warner’s “One Virginia PAC” and, $20K to Kaine’s “Moving Virginia Forward” PAC.

While Weschler has also donated to Republicans, he has also given significant money to Democrats.

Jason writes:

Brownlee has shown his concern for questions of his conservative credentials….Given his lack of a legislative record, there are going to be many more questions and people are going to look at things like donors for answers.

This is not a very good answer to Conservatives.

[...] it’s worse than even Jason and JR (Bearing Drift) realize.  One of Weschler’s “Republican” recipients (to the tune of $19,500) [...]

    Here we go again

People arguing about who is the most conservative. You want a one party state keep it up. How many elections do we have to lose before people get it. The old ways won’t work anymore people

Right Novamiddleman… we hate having candidates who stand for things! We need more ambiguous politicians who can stand for anything!

That’s the way we’ll get Republicans elected… and as we all know, flaccid politicians with unknown intentions is the best thing for the Commonwealth of Virginia! And having such a politician with an “R” next to their name is our overall goal, right?!?!

Please don’t make this an election about the candidates’ donor lists. Cuccinelli has some of his own “interesting” donors. Certainly ones that won’t make his core supporters happy. I think this is a fight nobody wins.

A voter I am more than happy to discuss the issues. Instead we already have a race focused on who is the most “conservative” You know what lets just get rid of the stupid word. Its at best at red herring with different meanings for different people. Pretty soon they will both be trying to out Regan each other. Last time I checked that was over 20 years ago. Drop the stupid slogans and petty attacks and lets focus on the issues.

That was my nice entry here is my nasty entry

Has it dawned on you that to win we are going to need people that voted for Mark Warner for Senate (All indications are he is going to win with 60% at a minimum). Think about that… keep thinking……… then think some more

Then talk to me about the pettyness of party purity.
