Drake-Nye characterized by Virginian-Pilot as “competitive”

Today’s Virginian-Pilot provides an overview of the 2nd Congressional District campaign between incumbent Rep. Thelma Drake, a Republican, and challenger Glenn Nye, a Democrat.
The article, which quotes Larry Sabato and local political scientists Quentin Kidd of Christopher Newport University and Jesse Richman of Old Dominion University, characterizes the district as unpredictable, based on the top of the ticket.
“I expect we’ll have the largest African American turnout in Virginia’s history,” Kidd said. In the 2nd District, 22 percent of the residents are black.
Which is tied by the Pilot into helping Nye, due to Barack Obama’s race.
“I see McCain as giving Drake a bit of an edge,” Sabato said.
This assertion due to the large concentration of veterans in the 2nd District.
How does Nye respond?
“I’ve strapped on body armor.”

I am making the prediction now…Thelma wins 52% to 48%, if not by a larger margin.
With McCain at the top of the ticket and the large military presence in and around the 2nd districts….I find it unlikely she doesn’t come back for a third term.
