For Virginia congressional delegation is the energy discussion about politics

A few weeks back, Rep. J. Randy Forbes (R-VA04) proposed a bold new initiative to reshape the energy discussion with his “New Manhattan Project.” The visionary plan seeks to incentivize innovation when it comes to increasing our energy independence.
The plan has all the makings of applying traditional American know-how and free-market principles to an energy debate that often has lacked both.
The proposal made a splash, being launched on CNN and highlighted in the Wall Street Journal. But I wondered why Forbes wasn’t getting support from Rep. Eric Cantor, Rep. Thelma Drake, Rep. Rob Wittman, or other members of the Virginia Republican congressional delegation. I could only theorize that it was because they supported some other plan.
Well, yesterday my hypothesis was confirmed with this release:
“U.S. Senator John McCain’s presidential campaign today announced that U.S. Representatives Thelma Drake, Eric Cantor and Rob Wittman will hold a press conference on Thursday, July 24th at 1:45 p.m. EDT to discuss John McCain’s plan to help lower gas prices. The comprehensive, balanced plan, known as the Lexington Project, supports more drilling, expands the use of nuclear energy, and encourages more research while investing in alternative energy sources.”
I’m not making an argument against the Lexington Project. In fact, I think it’s a pretty good proposal.
What I am disappointed in though, is that someway, somehow, elements of the New Manhattan Project have not been incorporated into McCain’s strategy,\; and that a unified Virginia delegation hasn’t figured out a way to do that.
