Del. Spruill calls $90,000 salary “no big money”
By | Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008 | Catch-All

Nice to see Democrat Del. Lionel Spruill is so in touch with his constituents, as he downplays his $90,000 salary working for fellow Del. Brian Moran.

“That’s no big money I’m getting,” Spruill said. “Anyone could have matched it.” (Virginian-Pilot)

I bet a whole lot of Virginians Spruill represents think $90,000 is very big money. Nice to see Democrats looking out for the little guy! Spruill didn’t even have the decency to abstain from voting on Boss Moran’s legislation while pocketing his checks.

After all, “anyone could have matched it.”

About the author

Brian Kirwin

The right wants to jeer him. The left wants to censor him. Moderates usually want both. Brian Kirwin is a political consultant and public relations strategist in Virginia Beach with a lightning-rod flair. Brian also serves on the VB Arts & Humanities Commission and frequently appears on Hampton Roads theatrical stages, if only to prove that all actors aren’t liberals. Kirwin’s columns stir up debate and hit the political scene with no punches pulled.

If it’s no big money, then just donate it to charity. If $90k is chicken feed to the Delegate then I’m sure he can easily stand to part with it.

RPV has now chimed in on this too with some interesting census data:

    • The average wage in Virginia is: $43,958
    • The average budgeted classroom teacher salary in Virginia is: $50,633
    • The average annual median income of households in the South is: $42,138

$90K…that’s probably just “walking around” money.
