Former Senator from Georgia, injured war hero Max Cleland was invited, and then abruptly disinvited from an Atlanta fundraiser for Barack Obama.

“we will open ourselves to criticism” was the reason given by Obama’s deputy campaign manager.

I would have guessed that un-inviting Max would be welcome news to the Repub faithful based on their earlier track record of running Cleland attack ads that featured Osama Bin Laden, Saddam Hussein, and….. Max. Cuz those 3 guys get together to play cards or hate america or something. Trumpet this news i say. Dont be shy. To do otherwise would be to flip flop.

A disturbingly inacurate post at best.

    1. Max Cleland was disinvited b/c he is a lobbyist and Sen. Obama has strict ethical stanards regarding his interaction with lobbyists (I’m sure if Mr. Cleland had attended Obama would have been attacked for flip-flopping).

    2. After the disgusting manner with which the GOP slandered Max Cleland’s character and patriotism during his last re-election campaign - to now manipulate Mr. Cleland’s service for the GOP’s own purposes should be embarrasing - sadly to the GOP this is all a game and the people are only pawns to be used and slandered as needed.

“A disturbingly inacurate post at best.”

In what possible way? He was originally invited, someone remembered that Cleland is a lobbyist and they consequently disinvited him. Kinda-exactly like the post says. Too clear for you?

“I’m sure if Mr. Cleland had attended Obama would have been attacked for flip-flopping”

Yes, and rightly so. Just as he’s been criticised for all of his other recent flips & gaffs. It’s politics. Grow up.

And you criticize Republicans for slandering someone’s military service? Got wax in your ears when your liberal friends compare McCain to Hitler, etc.?

    *sheesh*

I’m used to it. I write the truth and Ragnar doesn’t like it, so he says it’s inaccurate (or as Ragnar would say, inacurate).

My post is accurate, but it doesn’t sink to Ragnar’s ethical stanards (Ragnar’s spelling).

I wish I was as smart as he…

He’s just mad because Clinton wasn’t impeached … oh, wait …

spin: a special point of view, emphasis, or interpretation presented for the purpose of influencing opinion.

    Check.

Is a lie by omission still a lie?

If not, then a headline like “McCain acknowledges affair with 26 year old” is accurate, right? Or maybe “Scandal: McCain investigated for ties to financial crisis”.

Would it have been too much to ask to supply an untruncated quote? The Obama flack’s full quote was, “If we make exceptions, we will open ourselves to criticism[.]” That makes the meaning clearer, I think.

Obama’s campaign disses Max Cleland, and all y’all on the left can do is attack the messenger.

Tells me you think Obama’s campaign was wrong.

While I don’t want Obama to win the election, I think that his campaign made the right decision. They just failed in their due diligence. The lot of them have not seemed as sharp in the last couple of weeks as they did during the primaries.

That said, BK, you should have included the entire quote and you know it.

  10. Brian Kirwin on July 19th, 2008 3:05 pm

    Why?

If three network anchors can flock to Obama’s overseas jaunts and ignore McCain’s, I can quote however I darn well please.

BK, the invitation was an unfortunate initial mistake, which i believe the campaign addressed in the best way possible. As far attacking you, don’t mistake a critique of the message for an attack on the messenger.

And Brian (not BK), don’t look in BK’s posts for anything resembling journalism. Like most of what you find in the political blogosphere, its advocacy, plain and simple. And honestly, if you want anything else, you’re probably looking in the wrong place.

BTW, many thanks to McCain and crew for all the noise about Obama’s trips to the middle east (or lack thereof). We certainly appreciate the attention :).
