About the author

Brian Kirwin

The right wants to jeer him. The left wants to censor him. Moderates usually want both. Brian Kirwin is a political consultant and public relations strategist in Virginia Beach with a lightning-rod flair. Brian also serves on the VB Arts & Humanities Commission and frequently appears on Hampton Roads theatrical stages, if only to prove that all actors aren’t liberals. Kirwin’s columns stir up debate and hit the political scene with no punches pulled.

    I couldn’t resist. I had to donate!

I had to give too…and I’m asking for donations!

I’m thinking 3000 donors may be be aiming too low at this point…

Too bad he doesn’t believe in the same things I do, LOL … I might have been able to find $8.00 and some change somewhere. Probably in that change jar in the cabinate over the washing machine. Although, I think I’d need to find $250 because I’d like the Kansas state coffee mug.

BTW stating the obvious here; “Progressives” never understand that when they lead off by mocking half the population’s values they can’t expect contributions from non-progressives. But then, they just can’t help themselves, can they?

    8-)

Instead of mocking Republican candidates in his opening frame he could have just as easily mocked the incumbant’s speech by quoting the incumbant as promising endlessly promising “hope and change” and offering to give away free stuff from the government by taxing the “wealthy” to “help the poor”. If the rest of his premise proves true – that being that voters don’t really know anything about what goes on in their governent, it wouldn’t matter.

Maybe he should put up two versions of his website … the progressive version he has now and one that appeals to non-progressives?

I’m sure if Brian was his campaign manager, Brian would recommend that. You know the old rule, tell a donor whatever they whant to hear as long as what you tell them gets them to write you a check …

Isn’t that what every campaign manager is taught?

He’s broken 3000 and keeps going. I’d be interested to see how many donors are from the district but in the end money is money. And I’m sure a good chunk of it is from folks who don’t agree with him on the issues but are willing to reward his creativity.

The overall design of the site beyond the comic is really spectacular. Really well done.

Also, you have to appreciate his rewards:

$60 – We’ll send a really nice, big thank you card signed by all of our volunteers. It’s not exotic or valuable, but it’s genuine appreciation. We’d love to send you more, but we’re really trying to conserve our resources and spend thriftily.
    $120 – We’ll send you a limited edition campaign t-shirt. It’s well-designed, unlike most campaign stuff.
$250 – We’ll send you a limited edition campaign t-shirt and a coffee mug with the Kansas flag on it.
$500 – We’ll send you a limited edition campaign t-shirt, a coffee mug with the Kansas flag on it, and a DVD video from Sean Tevis’ mom telling you how wonderful you are, because you are.

I really hate the current situation here in Bangkok. It affects my sales, my life and and and. When is it going to stop…
