Free Speech Democrats? Not these guys.
By | Monday, July 14th, 2008 | Catch-All

Democrat Bob Mathieson, along with Joe Bouchard, called on Congresswoman Thelma Drake to cancel her sold-out fundraiser with Karl Rove.

“We have rules, and there are consequences for people who don’t follow rules,” Mathieson said

Where’s Bruce Willis to give Bobby a Die Hard-ish “That’s what my Captain keeps telling me!”

Cancel a fundraiser? Yeah…we’ll get right on that!

I’m not trying to get into a debate, but I do find the crocodile tears a bit too much to not laugh at.

Name one Democratic congressman or presidential candidate who would not want an impeached former president campaigning for them.

What is the consequence for the Democrats in the General Assembly for failing time after time to come up with a transportation plan that doesn’t raise taxes on their hard-working constituents?

Defeat in the next election. That is the consequence.

Bobby and Joey – your days are numbered.

And, oh by the way. The Rove matter is being decided by the Federal Courts. If the Courts rule that Rove must testify then he will. Its no big deal – just a constitutional principle called co-equal branches of government. Does the president get to subpoena Pelosi’s senior aides and grill them just for the fun of it about what they told Pelosi and when? No. So why should Congress get to subpoena Rove, who was not in a Senate-confirmed position, to testify? He doesn’t control a Department of the government; he;s just an advisor to the Presideet. If he’s accused of a crime let the Justice Department investigate him. Oh, that’s right. They already did investigate and could not get an indictment.

Have we had enough with the childish telephone press conferences? Why a phone conference by the way? Because Bobby and Joey did not want to go on camera with this one…That’s how embarrassing this is to even them…

Isn’t this call an example of free speech?

Rags, Government officials try to gag a private citizen, and you call it free speech.

BOY do you have the Bill of Rights backwards!

  7. ragnar July 15, 2008 10:05 am

BK – You really need to read the Constitution sometime. You obviously have little to no understanding of what the Bill of Rights means or how the Bill works. There is NO state action present, these individuals are NOT acting as state actors. They are simply private citizens in this capacity and no government action is trying to “gag” her. All they are doing is calling on Rep Drake to show some responsibility and acknowledge the fact that Karl Rove has demonstrated contempt for Congress by failing to appear when under subpoena.

If you are going to loudly proclaim an affection for the Bill of Rights you should probably learn something about how they work.

Oh, elected officials of the state aren’t state actors?

I guess that invalidates every criticism you’ve had of George W. Bush…since he’s just a private citizen.

  9. ragnar July 15, 2008 16:26 pm

    No, not in this context.

If you are going to comment or post on matters such as these you really should get some education.
