Virginia Politics On-Demand (#34): July 31, 2008. [29:34m]: Play Now | Play in Popup | Download (2468)Why I called Obama a man whose policies are out of the Communist Manifesto
Update (Aug. 1): Lest you think that I am the only one thinking this, check out Investors Business Daily. —– Today on “Blog Bunker”, Sirius 110, I made a statement based off of a quote from Barack Obama from an interview he conducted with the Wall Street Journal. Here’s the quote: “Globalization and technology and [...]
House seeks to ban cellphones on flights…but not because of safety
If it was because a terrorist could remotely detonate a bomb or because it caused some interference with radar/flight communications, I could see why a House Panel would vote today to ban cell phones on domestic flights. However, that’s not the reason Democrats gave today.
Tonight, I get “Sirius”, along with our weekly podcast
If you are so inclined, and you have a Sirius radio, I’ll be on “The Blog Bunker” (Indie Talk 110) at 5 p.m. Preliminary topics include… McCain’s new ad with images of Britney Spears & Paris Hilton – are negative attacks on Obama helping or hurting McCain McCain vice president possibilities The budget deficit is [...]
Warner: Agent of the Status Quo
A breathless fundraising email plops into my in-box today from Mark Warner (why am I on his list? Search me). It boldly claims that: …one Senator used a procedural tactic to single-handedly block nearly three dozen overwhelmingly popular bills – everything from protecting children from sexual predators to investigating unsolved civil rights murders . The [...]
Kaine 4 VP? Implications for the GOP
If Obama picks our Governor as his Veep, life will get a lot tougher for the Virginia GOP. Not only will we have Warner’s massive voter database and canvassing effort but we will face a particularly energized Democrat base.
Warner’s Inroads
Had a nice young woman come to our door in the sultry Henrico suburbs this evening. She was canvassing the neighborhood for Mark Warner. After I told her, in rather colorful terms, what I thought of Warner – and Jim Gilmore – we talked a little shop. But afterwards, something struck me — she said [...]
Drake leads on Energy reform
Congresswoman Drake is one of the original co-sponsors of National Conservation, Environment, and Energy Independence Act, a bipartisan bill to give Americans control over our national economic future. It ends a federal moratorium on offshore drilling while allowing states to require they be 50 miles offshore. The bill includes provisions for use of woody biomass, [...]
Moran sees error of his ways
Today’s Virginian-Pilot contains a letter from the Director of Del. Brian Moran’s campaign (better if it was in his own name, but eh?) that almost solves every problem I cited in this post about Moran paying Spruill during the General Assembly session. Moran will put Spruill on unpaid leave during the ’09 session and introduce [...]
So Let Me Get This Straight . . .
Do Ken Cuccinelli’s supporters honestly think he can win with the same coalition of voters as Mark Early and Jerry Kilgore? I certainly don’t. The simple fact is that if all of our Republican candidates in 2009 do not win the votes, and yes the financial support, of people in the Commonwealth who supported and [...]

Kaine is still all the “buzz”
Here’s an excerpt from an interview with Tom Daschle by Andrea Mitchell on MSNBC: MITCHELL: …let’s talk about tim kaine…
Wittman taking nothing for granted
Since Keith Hummel’s unexpected departure from the 1st District congressional race, Rep. Rob Wittman (R-1) does not have an announced Democratic opponent. But that isn’t stopping Wittman from doing all the necessary things campaigns should do. According to his campaign manager, Casey Werderman, Wittman’s campaign now has three headquarters that are fully operational, he’s still [...]
Brownlee primary donor has given over $60K to Democrats
Over the past couple weeks, there has some preliminary skirmishing between State Sen. Ken Cuccinelli and former U.S. Attorney John Brownlee as they vie for the Republican Nomination for Virginia Attorney General.
Animal House: John Kerry style
Posted on TMZ (h/t: j’s notes) Disturbing…but funny. I guess he’s still wondering if the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor…but I am here to tell him, it’s definitely over!
Poison & Dokken rock Virginia
So what if CC and Bobby’s guitar intro was stolen from Wyld Stallions of Bill & Ted fame, and Bret Michaels looked a bit like Shawn Michaels. Poison rocked the NTelos Pavilion in Portsmouth last night. Rumors that Mayor Holley referred to the show as “that white concert” were unconfirmed
Cuccinelli responds to Brownlee comments
State Sen. Ken Cuccinelli has succinctly replied to the comments made to Bearing Drift last week by John Brownlee, his opponent for the Republican nomination for Virginia Attorney General: “That’s just silly,” wrote Cuccinelli.
The Two Tims
Speculation over McCain’s and Obama’s potential Vice Presidential picks appears to be reaching critical mass these days. At the center of the chattering class’ favorite parlor game are two guys who seem to have a lot in common in addition to their first name: Tim Pawlenty and Tim Kaine.
Bloggers to sue Suffolk?
So posts Scott’s Morning Brew. Geez, Suffolk. Wouldn’t it have been easier to just add the blogger to the pres-rel distro? Is this really worth it?
Bolling voted second-best of the seconds
Congratulations, seriously, to Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling who was elected this weekend to be the Vice Chairman of the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA). He previously served as Treasurer of the NLGA and also serves on the Association’s Executive Committee. However, doesn’t it kind of have the connotation of “best blogger”…or something like that. Of [...]
Voter fraud widespread throughout Virginia?
It started with an investigation in Hampton Roads, but now it appears that voter fraud may also be occurring in Richmond, causing Chairman Jeff Frederick of the Republican Party of Virginia to call on Attorney General McDonnell and Governor Kaine to launch an investigation of a possible coordinated campaign to undermine the election.
Drake-Nye characterized by Virginian-Pilot as “competitive”
Today’s Virginian-Pilot provides an overview of the 2nd Congressional District campaign between incumbent Rep. Thelma Drake, a Republican, and challenger Glenn Nye, a Democrat. The article, which quotes Larry Sabato and local political scientists Quentin Kidd of Christopher Newport University and Jesse Richman of Old Dominion University, characterizes the district as unpredictable, based on the [...]
